I picked this beer up from Kroger in Salem, VA. This was a nice beer. Good color - very dark, and a proper mouthfeel for a porter. The flavor was a chocolate/coffee flavored porter. Very nice.

On tap at Bier Markt, Ottawa. Pours a thick creamy frothy beige head and has dark amber/brownish appearance. Thick dirty lacing all around. Aromas of toffee, mocha and coffee. Quite malty. Flavours are mainly toasted malts, coffee, subtle chocolate hints, mocha. Medium retention. Light/medium bodied. Oily and creamy mouthfeel. A bit pricey at this venue though.

This comes out of the tap an opaque sable with a thick, camel color fine bubbled head. Strong aroma is like smoky coffee and has a firm tone of unsweetened chocolate and hints of molasses. Rich, satisfying flavor is like a mocha, fine roast coffee and chocolate, not sweet but not bitter either. Finish is smooth and sleek. Recommended to all porter and stout fans.

The first attribute that gets my attention is the pretty dark chocolate color with brown iridescence. Next is the "chocolatey" aroma. It smells more chocolate than it tastes but it is a nice unsweet thirst quencher. Sometimes, that's all it takes to make it a good beer!

Pours a dark black with a big sudsy head that takes its time. Aroma is of dark roasts, sweetness, and chocolate. Taste is somewhat watered down unfortunately. Tastes of malts, hops, and a very slight chocolaty note. Aftertaste is slightly metallic with hints of coffee. Pleasant to drink but it is far from special.

It was nice to find a Rogue in a smaller bottle for all this testing in Vegas. Pours a dark brown with a mocha-coloured cap that is creamy, stays long and creates patchy lacing. Mild cocoa nose with hints of roasted and caramel malts. Silky smooth mouthfeel with just a little stick to it. The taste is mild as well, with the chocolate, coffee, molasses, sweet and burnt malts. Feels like a watered-down coffee porter, which is nice if you wish to have a few, and do not feel like a heavy stout.

Nice near-black pour with an ample tan head and big chunky lacing. Pleasant aromas of sweet toasted malts, some molasses, mocha and chocolates. Thin mouthfeel; taste is not quite up to the aromas: a bit watery, fairly weak on the cocoa and mocha, still sweet and malty but really just a disappointment - hoped for more.

This beer pours a black hue with a beige head that goes away quickly and does not lace much. The aroma was nice with noticable hints of chocolate and coffee. The beer was light and carbonated on the tongue. However, the flavor was flat and didn't deliver much porter "POW". This, to me, could've been any ordinary porter, nothing special.

This beer pours with a nice black color and a large tan head that goes away pretty quick. It has a great nice porter taste with a hint of mocha and coffee. This is not saying a lot but like many porters it does not leave a lasting taste in your mouth.

This was my first introduction to Rogue beers, and after trying many, is one of my favorite "standard price beers" from them. Has a very dark brown-near black appearance. Not super heavy, but I wouldn't call it a thin either. Almost like a stout. Tastes of chocolate, little bit of caramel, and little bit of coffee. I didn't notice the coffee flavor as much as some other coffee/mocha beers that I've tried. It's been a while since I bought a 6-pack of this, as I've been trying other things. But after some trial and error, I'll probably be picking a 6 up of Mocha Porter soon......................................................... Updated 3/30/10- As good as I remembered. Coffee definitely noticeble but not overwhelming. Still one of my favorites by Rogue, and one of my favorite overall porters.
