Finally got this out in San Diego, it lived up to the hype, it poured pitch black with a nice tan head. The aroma was sweet, roasty and coffee. The mouthfeel was amazingly smooth with little alcohol burn for such a big beer. A strong coffee flavor but sweeter than expected. This may be the best stout I have ever tried.

My wife is a fan of this beer but to me it was a light flavor with just a hint of citrus and to much sweetness from the honey. Nothing remarkable and it was not horrible but it did not stand out in any way.

This beer pours a copper color. The head was white and the lacing pretty good. It has an amazing smell malty with some bitterness in the background, maybe a little raisin but the taste was a let down. It was almost antiseptic in flavor with a bad after taste. This was my first try of this brewery hopefully the next one will be better.

THis was my first Black IPA. It pour very dark brown and had a tan head. The aroma was malty with a strong hop flavor. It had a chocolate sweetness, the hops were mainly citrus and pine but there was a hint of spiciness. Also the rye was very muted and you really had to search for it.

  • Dogfish Head Punkin Ale
    rated 3.5 13 years ago

    Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

This beer pours a reddish brown. It does not have much head but it does have a thin tan head. The aroma is heavy with nutmeg, cinnamon and pumpkin. The taste is heavy in nutmeg, with a little pumpkin aftertaste. Malts come through but this beer is really all about the spice and it works, not something to chug or drink a lot of but a great seasonal.
