Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

This beer pours a copper color. The head was white and the lacing pretty good. It has an amazing smell malty with some bitterness in the background, maybe a little raisin but the taste was a let down. It was almost antiseptic in flavor with a bad after taste. This was my first try of this brewery hopefully the next one will be better.

Bomber pours clear copper with thin off white head. The aroma is a mix of sweet malts, sweet nuttiness and a firm layer of earthiness. I also get a thin layer of dark fruity esters in the background. The taste is as sweet as the aroma suggests with malts, some ripe juicy plums, cherries and nuttiness followed by an earthy note. Deep in the background is a bit of pine like hops and a sliver of malt roastiness attempting to dry it out.

Bottled@Konttori, Tampere. Amber colour, basically no head. Aroma is lots of fruity hops, some oaked notes as well as some herbal notes. Flavour is fruity, mildly yeasty, some alcohol, some plum as well as burnt sugar.. Huge grassy and caramelly peak in the finish. Hides the 9 % very well, since alcohol only shows as a slight sweetness.

9.2% ABV: I liked this one. Could use a little more malt. Light red appearance. Has some DIPA characteristics, or something like one of those hybrids. Citrus and pine hops, etc. Still finding Lagunitas better though, for about 2/3 the price....or even half if you get their 6-packs.

A fuzzy amber colored beer. A big off white, frothy textured head rises above. Great hang time. Eventually settles into film on side of glass and lumps of froth atop the body. Toasted malt and a big floral hops in the nose. The body is medium body. Well and pleasantly carbonated. Nice balance of sweet malt and bitter, piney, floral hops in the taste. A really good representative of the style. A must try.

Bomber: Poured a deep amber, clear butt with a nice off white cap that lasted well enough considering the ABV% Aroma was very nice; pungent roasty malts with plenty of fruity esters and hop earthiness. Toasty-bready-toffee-fruity that’s the profile and it is well pronounced and executed. A substantial ale, firm bodied, satisfying and warming. I wish I had a supply of this last winter.

Imperial Red...........would that be a darker red? A better tasting red? A Red for the ages? If any of those are the case than Southern Tier falls short. This is a mellow beer with the taste of sweet malt and a bitter finish. Easy drinking despite the higher than average alcohol content.

    650ml bottle
7.8% ABV (as opposed to 9.5%)

The beer poured a translucent red colour with some brown hues. The head was tan in colour, and maybe half an inch in thickness. The aroma was weakly floral with some sweet malt in the mix. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was primarily grapefruit and citrus hoppiness, some peppery tones, and a little maltiness.

thanks for the bottle timmy! poured to a nice amber color w/ a nice head that went away to fast to enhance the nice color. the aroma wasn't what i would expect from a impy. the flavor kind of followed the aroma with a lack of taste for an impy. not a bad brew, just average as u can see by the numbers.

Considering the bottle says imperial red, I was rather disappointed with this beer. It pours an amber color with a decent head and decent hop aroma but the taste is where things go downhill. I was expecting a hopped up red (93 IBUs) but it didn't taste like a red or have the hop kick of an IPA--just a plain tasting amber beer. Would have hoped for a little less balance and more of a kick.
