Smooth, roasty, and inviting, our traditional London-style porter is a favorite among dark beer fans. Blackhook is characterized by its pronounced coffee and chocolate notes, and by its uncommonly smooth finish. A truly world-class ale.

Pours dark chocolate brown with a decent buff head. Aroma features roast malt, molasses and subtle licorice tones. Flavor offers roast malt, smoky hops, and touches of molasses and licorice. Mouthfeel presents good body, sassy fizz, and a smoky roast malt and charred hops finish. Hooked on Porter!

July 2010 - On tap at Portsmouth location. Dark pour with frothy head and some lacing. Because this was one of the standard offerings, I expected a pedestrian effort, it being Redhook and all. The aroma was virtually nonexistent, but the flavor was a pretty rich roasty flavor with smooth chocolate undertones. Pretty dry in the mouth, but still flavorful. Not outstanding but a solid effort.

I was given a 12 pack of this porter style. Upon opening , was met with a soft roast coffee with hints of sweet choclate. Very dark. After a couple minutes, the first taste was that of soft coffee and choclate flavors. It was a reminder of the Stout that Redhook used to make several years ago. That one was brewed with Starbucks coffee. This was a faint reminder of that brew. I would drink this again unlike everyone else. It wasnt the greatest but it was alright. This was definitely influenced by European style porters just not as full flavored.

While this is not a bad or unpleasant porter at all, it is rather - well, average. It's not bad, but nothing really stands out as something impressive. Slight head, minimal lacing, bland flavor and unimpressive complexity - or lack thereof.

one of the more boring porters i've had, not that i'm surprised, given the brewer. it was worth a shot, though. nothing unpleasant, nothing impressive, just a boring beer.

Pours a deep black with virtually no head (even when poured vigorously). Some presence of coffee and chocolate in the aroma, but generally the aroma is quite bland. Tastes similarly bland with some slightly noticeable adjuncts. I have recently sampled a few porters back to back and reviewed them (Anchor, Sam Adams, Rogue, etc.), and this was easily the least impressive.

Pours a dark mahogany with a reddish glow. Small, off-white head. Aroma of hard roasted malt. Medium-bodied with loads of hard roasted malt and some lightly burned accents. Vague bitter finish from the malt.

The aroma is nice of chocolate and some spices with overtones of java and malt. The appearance is dark black but a deep reddish to amber color when held to the light with a nice tan head that is rocky and lingers on top. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and not too heavy with nice complexity and coats the pallet nicely. The flavor is great and creamy and wet which starts off malty and quickly turns to chocolate and some coffee, java, and spice. The finish ends a bit dry and the flavor lingers a bit, very nice. Overall, this porter is sweet and creamy with nice coffee and chocolate accents; I got to go pick me up a sixer now, this one is great."

Cask@GBBF2007. Dark amber colour, small bronish head. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts, burnt wet wood and some slight caramel. Flavour is coffee, some dark fruits and slightly yeasty. Also some slight roasted malts to be foiund. Pleasant, but quite watery palate.
