If taking account where this beer was consumed counts towards the ratings, this might be the perfect beer. Enjoyed in the common room at the Ahwanhee Hotel at Yosemite National Park and it's really one of the most beautiful places on Earth. So that being said, the rating of the beer is that it's pretty average. The pour is a medium tan brown body, cloudy with a smallish sized 1" off-white pour. Aroma has some earthy, tea-like malts. Flavor has some light bitternesss (walnut-y bitter-like), a touch peppery with an every light touch of malt sweetness. No noticeable flaws, easy to consume and more importantly...does not distract from the beauty of the surroundings. It's all about Yosemite when you're there. -

i only agree with the last rater as far as the hops and aroma are concerned. nice, malt-driven aroma and flavor. organic pilsener and munichs...great combo. if the hop profile was stronger, this would be one of the best ambers, cuz the malt really works, but there is no balance in the finish. the noble hops are nearly impossible to detect. otherwise, a very enjoyable brew. i've now tried 5 beers from Mammoth over the last month or two and like them all! 10/09 - a tad boring out of the can

The labels of Mammoth's beers have changed, the names have changed, the website has changed...I'm going to go ahead and assume the brewing process has changed. Besides, this is a new addition to their line up. They didn't make an amber ale prior to this. This leaves very lacy foam on the glass, with a thin layer of head. The beer is still pretty thin tasting. There is plenty of bubbles in the beer, but it has the consistency of every other one of their beers. Orange-amber color. Smells of caramel and malty goodness. In fact, the aroma is the best part of this beer. Tastes of weak malts, and minimal hops. Makes you feel a bit like a goldfish...immediately after swallowing it, you can't remember what it tasted like. All of Mammoth's beers may have had a facelift and a few new gang members, but inside the bottle it is the same old uninteresting, flat beer. 1-15-11: Finally! Mammoth has managed to package some carbonation in their beers. This is rather sweet; sweeter than I remember it. Iced tea colored. Copious lacing and no hoppy finish, despite what the label says.
