Batch 371 may also appear as Magic Hat Dunkelweizen or Saint Gootz.

Ludwidicus Gootz, a 14th century farmer with an unnatural thirst, concocted an ale born of deep snow and whirling winds in his Germanic homeland. Shunned by the brotherhood of monks, Gootz took it upon himself to spread this heavenly beer throughout the land. Upon his death, Gootz revelers rose up and demanded his inclusion into the Sainthood... and hence his ale became known as Saint Gootz. Six centuries later, Todd Haire, Magic Hat's head brewer discovered the recipe for this "Blessed Dark Wheat Ale" inscribed onto an old challis. He proudly brewd it for all modern revelers to enjoy.

Good one from magic hat. Poured a brown color small head and not much lacing. Aroma was banana cloves little nutty and the caramel was hidden till mine warmed a bit. Flavor was much the same some lemon in there. Creamy mouthfeel.

KCC Rnd 3. Unfiltered, 3/4 pint brown bottle. Deep chestnut color with a rocky, 1/2" foamy tan head. A little cloudy after a pre-pour rousing. Packs a pungent wheat aroma and a pronounced, grainy and sour wheat flavor. Mouthfeel is full. Smooth, and prickly from carbonation. Sharply sour and dry in the aftertaste. A heavy winter ale that satisfies a hardworking thirst.

What a great try in my opinion. It really had a taste of an unfiltered light guinness to me. I bought this with #9 and i have to say i like this one better even though #9 is more popular.CIninmen and stouty combos really good.

This brewery has such good potential, but I am always disappointed! The initial flavor is horrible, but has a somewhat pleasant aftertaste. Coloring is alright, very dark until you hold it up to a light and then it looks like turbid water. Aroma is very sweet, but slightly skunky. No wonder this beer was on sale. I won’t get this again, and probably won’t enjoy the rest of the six-pack.

Not a bad showing at all. Saint Gootz label. This one poured a dark brown color with orange edges and a nice thin head. Lacing was ok. The aroma was very typical for the style, nice roasted touch to the bananas and cloves. The flavor was much of the same, roasted caramel type malts, wheat, cloves, bananas, and some citrus. The finish was somewhat smokey, though... more than just roasted. The mouthfeel was moderate to heavy for the style, dry, and carbonated. Nice job by MH.

Pours a murky brown with a very low head, moderate lacing as you go. Mouthfeel is a bit too burning for me, over the top on hops, and alcohol is apparent. All around it is above average on attitude, but I'm not so sure the contents live up to expecatations presented by the label, let alone the other great beers coming from this brewery.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark brown color beer with a small dark head with minimal retention. Weak aroma of roasted malt is detectable. Taste is dominated by sour malt and seems to leave little place to anything else except maybe a bit of roasted malt. Not sure if this is what was intended or if I had a bad bottle but surely not something that I will revisit anytime soon.

First off, I am not a fan of the weizens. This beer is no different. However, it looked fantastic. Dark brown with a large, light brown head. Odd flavor, almost a sour banana-peel taste to it. Banana aftertaste. Not a horrible beer, but definitely not my style.

Pours a dark brown, amber tinted body. Slightly cloudy but that's hard to distinguish due to the color. Nice thick tan head. The overall appearance I must say is pretty nice. Interesting set of aromas: roasted and chocolate with a mix of banana, vanilla, and some yeast. The taste is interesting but in the end quite good. It's got some coffee and chocolate but at the same time there is banana along with other fruity tastes. Roast all those and you've got this strange brew. There's a slight hop bite as well. It's not the greatest beer I've tried but it was definitely a fun beer to sample and review. There's so much going on that I want to try it again. I bet I find something else about it that I missed.

I had Magic Hat Dunkelweizen at the Kennett Square brewfest. It poured a slightly cloudy brown color with a small tan head. The aroma was spiced with hints of banana and clove. The tasted followed suit but with a nice sweet malty finish. Smooth, creamy, and very drinkable. I hope this gets bottled soon.
