It's hard to believe that I haven't rated this beer before. An issue I have with ths is that in Canada. Lowenbrau has been brewed by several different entities over the years. In the 70s and 80s it was brewed in Canada by Carling O'Keefe. Then it shifted to being imported for a few years, and now the cans in Canada are brewed by Labatt. Either way, I've had the German original, and they all taste pretty much the same. It's a well balanced Americanized German helles where you can detect the malted grains as equally as the Central European hops. It gets lifted by the Enjoyment scores, but isn't that part of the experience....enjoying the actual beer!

Pours a big foamy bubbly head and has a pale yellowish appearance. Patchy lacing. Grainy, wheaty and malty aromas. Slightly sweet malt flavours. More grainy and wheaty notes. Very mild bitter hops. Light bodied. Somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Quite easy to drink for sure. Not bad.

It's been a lot of years since I tried this one, so when I saw it on the shelf I got it. This is still prey fair beer and it's surprising that it's not marketed better.it is clean and smooth in taste with solid malt taste

This one has some nostalgia involved, but since that's not a scorable attribute, here goes: slightly better than the macro plae lagers in the US, in that it's drinkable and non-offensive. light grassy hops but mostly corn and malt in a light, drinkable package.

Pours an effervescent golden color with a steady stream of bubbles feeding a soapy medium sized white white head with minimal retention and hardly any lacing. The aroma is of barley malt, toasty grains, and light grassy notes upfront. Some honey sweetness in the background, with a touch of mustiness to it as well. The taste is mostly just clean and unoffensive with a watery graininess permeates the palate. Light barley malt and subtle honey sweetness. Finishes with gentle grassy hops that just give the finish here the faintest touch of flavor. No real aftertaste. The mouthfeel is fizzy carbonation with the body remaining very light.

I remember trying this back in the day growing up....or seeing my dad order it and take a swig, etc. It's more of a seventies/eighties before all these microbrews came around. One of the old skool imports. Was happy to see it in the clearance section for fifty cents, and remembered that I had't reviewed yet, nor clearly remembered the characteristics. Basically seems like a pilsner to me, on the lighter side with minimal malts and hops.....or maybe like a lighter Peroni. Tastes good though, as I remembered. I had always put it in the swillish category, but it is better than that.

Have had this beer many times in the past - now revisiting a fresh bottle. Pours a clear medium yellow with a minimum head and little lacing. Good carbonation. Aromas of sweet malts and Bavarian hops. Taste is what I remembered - a little thin and a tad musty with the sweet malts upfront and a very slight bitter from the hops. Would be better consumed in mass quantity in the Lowenbrau beer tent during Oktoberfest!

All in all this is a good beer. A clear, golden body. Cold and crisp a refreshing lager, if that is what you are looking for. Unfortunately the frothy head is weak and dissipate rather quickly. The carbonation is impressive in the glass. The aroma and the taste is a nice balance of sweetness, malty bread, blueberries and ever so mild bittering hops.

Aroma is malty and sweet with some grainy notes as well as some flaked corn. Appearance is a golden yellow in color with a fuzzy, medium head on top that dissipates to a light lacing. The mouthfeel is light and smooth with very nice balance, a hallmark of this style, with a palate that is wet-like. Flavor is malty sweet, grainy, with faint hoppiness and is subtle with a refreshing aftertaste. Overall, nice brew here and a nice example of the style.

It had been a long time beetween tastings of this Bavarian treat for me, and I'm certainly glad I revisted it. A beautiful golden pour that is topped by a fluffy white head. You can smell the malt from across the room, and the trained nose will pick up the hoppy hints. This is a great tasting beer, a good balance of grainy malts and bitter hops.
