Like the Blonde d'Achouffe brewed by Le Cheval Blanc, this beer is not a copy of the original Chouffe family, but a beer brewed in cooperation with and in honor of the Belgian micro.

Poured out a brilliant dark copper brown brew but only a small fizzy light cap that goes to a rim hugger. All the sediment is swirled up now. The aroma is fairly fresh, interesting spices, allspice? hint of smoke, scrambled eggs (wha?), something that makes me think of what burnt cinnamon would smell like, (just poured more and poured it very hard... more fizzy foam), the aroma is fine but something is odd here and not in a bad way - just in a "what is that and why is that there" way. Tastes Belgium all the way, so, well done. The flavour is not in anyway overwhelming but the spices are there and come across quite pleasant. light molasses, other weak peppery spices, a dark caramel sits lurking on the end of the sip. The spice, if you really go deep does have a bit of a bit. There is also a medicinal quality that I’m finding time after time on the back end of this beer and I think I am breathing out the alcohol as I type. A bit of throat burn is happening but it’s not happening on individual sips rather that this is an accumulation of sips and the fact that the sediment is not even close to settling even after 15 minutes. Medium bodied with thinner moments. Maybe there is a small bit of .. ahhaha I forgot! quite wasted right now and spending most of my time editing my Grade 2 level spelling skills. This beer is decent enough, nothing to disappoint, nothing to tell your mistress about.. that whore

ottle 3 months old pours a clouded brown into the glass, smallish off white cap settles to a surface lace Aromas of toffee, spice, musty. Tastes pretty much like it smells..toffee sweet malt, dried fruit, nutty-sour yeast tastes light hopping some spice..wet sweet finish with substantial warming....alcohol hides 'til the finish. Drinkable enough, a mellowed belgian strong.

An evening full of confusion, I take it....
Watched the Calgary Flames choke to the fore-checking onslaught of the Tampa Bay Lightning for Game 7 of the Stanley Cup tonight, where I thought it was kind of a shame that not a single Canadian team has won The Cup in 10 years. And while not-so-enjoying the game, I sipped on what I can only assume to be an enjoyable Belgian beer contract brewed in Quebec.
My only confusiuon here would be in regards to "why is such a tasty beer only produced and distributed in Quebec?". For this this is a worthy beer, that I think really should see a more wide-spread range, as far as distribution goes.
Minimal head of foam in my Unibroue Trois Pistoles glass, atop a rather uniform brown/dark-tan body. Aroma-wise, a bit more assertive, but not too much so. Lets you know good things are coming, but doesn't come across too strongly.
For the flavor-profile, definate hints of some nuttiness in the front-end, followed closely by more traditional Belgian Dark Ale notes (i.e. estery, maybe a little fruity, malty, etc). Nothing too surprising here, but no disappointments, either.
Nicely filling in the mouthfeel, and easy on the quaffablility too.
Overall, I think I actually prefer this 660mL bottle over the more common 750mL bottles found here-and-there on this side of the Canadian/American border. And considering the price ($3.30 Canadian Dollars), it's a bargain.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark brown ale with a huge foamy head that disappeared within thirty second. Aroma is quite spicy and probably the only things that can make me recall its Belgian cousin. The spice dominates taste but fall a little flat because of thin body and lack of carbonation. I also notice an alcohol burn at the end that I didn’t particularly enjoy.

Pours a medium brown colour with red highlights. The head has better retention then their Blonde d'Achouffe, and some lacing. The alcohol is present in the scent. The nose was also made of red apples, spices and sweet malts. The mouthfeel is kinda flat. The taste reminds me of apple cider, not the alcoholic one, but the brown coloured one that you buy around Christmas time. But with heavy alcohol. Lots of spices and red apples. A pretty good brew, but much prefer their Blonde one.
