On tap at a FMB tasting - This is Quebec-styled micro Red ale (Rousse) but a bit of a style bender. (This genre “Red Ale” really is distinct enough to have its own classification – but that’s an argument for another session, to the review) – Clouded brownish red with a sticky off white cap which laces the glass well. Moderate carbonation. Nose is demure – cereal toastiness, some light sweetness, vinous fruitiness, some herbaceous tones like nettle. Warm malty layering in front with a decent hop presence balancing – more complexity in the middle-nutty,spicy, roasty, herbal bittering – finishes a bit drier with citrusy hopping taking over the palate, clean finish. Very fresh tasting, medium bodied (oats?), deeply flavorful and satisfying. Like Griffon Red on steroids. They could take this one to market and sell lots.
