A nice beer here, that is...who knows how old. Received in a trade with someone. Forgot exactly who sent it, but thanks. The beer was nice. As nice as a dry stout can be. Granted, it's not one of my all-time favorite style, but this was still very nice. An aroma of coffe, in fact it damned near dominates the nose. Some light aroma of dark chocolate is barely detectable. The flavor of chocolate and coffee dominate as well. A bit of a puckering twang was also picked up, perhaps due to the malts.

9.24.04 12oz bottle thanks to Goldtwins. Pours pitch brown, little halo of lingering head. Strong coffee notes on nose, not much choco, but a very nice coffee smell. Flavor is roasty and burnt with hints of peat/earth. Mild coffee finish. Good, light, coating body. Nice complexity and all-around subtlty with this one...it’s a shame about Dogwood. Thanks for the rarified treat, Larry!

Opaque black with some ruby notes around the edges which needed very bright light to see. Thick tan creamy foam head never got even close to dissipating even after 20 minutes. Roasty malt with some burnt character on the nose. Faint citric hops lighten the scent a bit. Creamy chocolate up front in the flavor, followed by a sharp bitterness which fades into a lingering bitterness with coffee hints. Mouthfeel is a little thin for a good stout.

Poured an opaque black color with a small, light tan head that left some lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla beans, sweet chocolate, light roast, and some faint fruitiness. Taste of chocolate, roast, some smoke, with dried fruits... it had a dry finish.

This pours a jet black bodied with a small light brown head that left very little lace. Aroma is roasted coffee. Mouthfeel was a little thin for a stout. The flavor of the beer was excelent though, rich flavor of coffee and dark chocolate along with some nice hops as well. a pretty good beer overall.

Even though this was old, this was damn impressive stil. Almost completely black on the color with no head, prolly due to the age. Aroma was nice, a sweet chocolate brown sugar thing goin on with it. Very smooth body to this one, fairly light chocolates that are heavily smoked. If only they could have made this one after the abv laws changed they would have one seriously kick ass stout.

Eclipse black color. Medium sized tan/beige head. Aroma is chocolate and toffee with hints of vanilla. A light to medium bodied stout. Malts are chocolate and coffee. Slightly spicy and bitter hops. Nicely balanced. Smooth taste. Good solid stout. DAMN IT ALLÖ they arenít around anymore. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Black with a wonderfully full coffee aroma. Not as hoppy as Guiness Extra Stout, and also a bit thin in comparison, but the coffee/chocolate flavor in this brew makes this highly enjoyable.

The aroma is of dark chocolate and mocha with some java and spices. The appearance is extremely charcoal black but very dark amber when held to the light with a huge light-brown head that is bubbly. The mouthfeel is medium to full-bodied and very carbonated and robust. The flavor is of rich coffee with strong java notes with chocolate overtones and very robust. Overall, a pretty good stout and very carbonated and satisfying.
