Nice deep brown/black pour from bomber, tall tan head, copious amount of big lacing. Rich roasted malt aroma with good dose of pine and earthy hops, burnt molasses and toast, a hint of licorice. Taste is nicely hopped roasted malts, with a brown sugar and near-burnt molasses flavor, then more malts and hops... Very nice stout; flavor is bigger than the ABV.

Picked up a bomber of this at Star Liquor the other day, great tasting brew! Pours pitch black, small to medium sized brown head that emerges but quickly fades away to just a thin top. Aroma is real pungent. Full on peaty, coffee bean, tree bark nose. Dry mouthfeel. subtle smoke, earthy flavors.

A dark brown/blackish color with absolutely no light coming through. A tan, creamy, smooth, tight head that had some real nice retention and some very, very good lacing. The aroma has a nice hop tone. More than what I'm accustomed to with Stouts and I like it!!! They smell piny and a bit resiny. Coffee hints compliment the hops very well. Some tangerine hints in there I think. You are going to think I'm crazy, but I swear this almost smells like buttered, king crab legs!!! Incredible. Haha. The taste brings out the hops again with that nice coffee stab. A touch of burnt toast to add some more malt complexity. Some medium amounts of hop bitterness. Nicely balanced considering the contrasting flavors. Medium mouthfeel. Smooth and dry. Damn near refreshing. Coats the palate nicely. I was very surprised with how the hop bitterness and aroma mixed with the coffee malt. Super easy to drink. When they say, "It's not normal." They are undoubtedly correct. This beer almost makes me giggle because it is so different, but guess what? I like it. This beer may be a bit weird for some, but not me.

Good dark stout in appearance, smell and flavor. Strong licorice and caramel on the nose, flavors of chocolate, coffee and licorice with a good dose of roasted malt. Actually seems kind of creamy in the mouth, nice touch. I really like what Three Floyds put out there.

Excellent stout. This is a great, clean, dry stout with big flavors. It pours a very dark brown, completely opaque with a small beige head. Black Sun looks a bit like hot cocoa made with dark chocolate. The aroma is rich and chocolatey with a hint of brown sugar. The flavor is rather dry with some lingering sweetness and a bit of ash. The mouthfeel is nice and creamy. It’s an excellent stout and easily the best dry stout that I’ve tried. Bottle was from lambtaco on Reddit.

a decent take on a dry stout, but not quite standout. solid in every aspect, though. lots of roasted malt, maybe a tad hoppier than the norm for the style. dry, bitter finish.

A black pour with a long lasting tan head. Smells of cocoa, coffee and hops. Creamy mouthfeel with a sweet cocoa/coffee on the onset with some subdued hops and malt coming in at the end giving it a dry finish. A nice balance of flavors and a bit different than most other stouts. Recommended.

Tasted at the April Northern California Beer Tasting. This stout poured a dark black color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized tan foamy head. The aroma is coffee, chocolate and a touch of diacetyl. Medium bodied stout. The malts are burnt malt, chocolate and coffee. The hops are piney and resinous. Kind of weird in an imperial stout. Decent balance. Good carbonation. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is slightly roasted, coffeeish and also some sourness. Flavour is roasted malts, coffee and some chocolate. Quite sour also. Pleasant thing, with quite dry palate.
