The aroma of the Backfin Pale Ale is of mild autumn fruit surrounded by the pleasant sweetness of the caramel malts that give the beer its richness in color and mouth feel. As you drink the beer, balance of flavor is what is most evident. The malt, the hops, and the yeast each contribute, as you taste the perfect fusion of a complicated blend of carefully chosen ingredients and brewing process expertise. The beer finishes very clean, with a fresh hop spiciness. As with most Clay Pipe products, The Backfin it is not heavy as it goes down. Its fast mellow finish will easily allow room for the consumer to enjoy another one.

A hazy orange beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with light notes of malt. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of caramel, and lesser notes of aroma hops, leading to a slightly bitter end, where some notes of fruit and hops lingers around.

KCC 6. Pours a bright amber with an orange-tinted foamy head. No faults noted. Nice, straightforward Pale Ale. Nothing that'll knock yer socks off, but easy-going, well-made, and quaffable.

Pours a bright yellow orange with a head that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma is nonexistent hoppy, mouthfeel a bit tinny and sharp. Flavor is hoppy and finishes sweet. Didn't really care for this one too much.

This one pours a red body with a fleeting head. The aroma is apple peels, a bit of bruised fruit and caramel. Not bad, but not exactly a top example of the style.

Poured a clear bright orange color, almost no head at all after the intitial fizzles. Lacing was absent. Aroma was strong caramel and some hops. Flavor was caramel, strong herbal hops (even some stale vegetable tones, although nothing was wrong with this bottle/beer), and oranges. Mouthfeel was typically carbonated, but somewhat too thick for a pale ale. Along with a sweet finish, this didn't match my likings.

This is a weak version of a pale ale. Most of Clay Pipe's products are the same, bland , watery , and tasteless. Steer clear and do not try it.

Not too much of anything. Very easy drinking. Great beer to have everyday, with a meal or just on a hot day!

Poured a dark golden color with a very small head. Mild hoppy aroma. Taste started off hoppy, then turned malty and caramel was very pronounced. Very enjoyable beer.
