Special XP Pale Ale - This is our interpretation of a classic pale ale. Our "XP" (exceptional pale) has a golden color, and is very light bodied with a noticeable hop aroma and bittering element that just teases the hopheads but satisfies the newest of microbrewed ale drinkers. This beer is brewed with American Two Row, English wheat, Belgian, and Dextrin malts. Mix this with just the right amounts of Cascade and Centennial hops and you've got a winner!!2003 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Bronze Medal Winner; 2001 North American Brewers' Awards, Gold Medal Winner; 2000 California State Fair, Bronze Medal Winner; 1997 Beerfest Invitational, Bronze Medal Winner - og 1.052, ABV 5.4%, IBU 55.

This is just a fine ale. Poured out a nice light copper color with a thick lasting head and nice lacing. Aroma has just a hint of pine. Good hopnote that balanced the rich malt flavors. Definitely worth trying.

Based on the Racer 5, I thought this would be a little better. Semi-smooth beer and hoppy for a pale ale. I've had IPAs with this kind of bitterness. Clear, yet with enough malt in it to give a light orange appearance. Flavors of caramel malt, citrus hops...with some floral notes as well. Balance could be a little better. Decent pale ale, though not one I would return to for this price.

A bright golden-amber colored beer with a small loose-bubbled soapy textured off white head that rises briefly above. Dettles into a thin ringlt with light film. Muted nose. Some grassiness. The tasting is grassy hops on subtlebiscuit malt. A light effevescent crisp body.

Bottled@Monks Café, Wallingatan, Stockholm. Amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is fruits, some eartth, caramel and slight grassy notes. Mild toffee as well, once it warms up a bit. Flavour is fruits, wood, yeast, mild earthy and grassy notes as well.

Pours orange, nice low white head. Aroma is malty and hoppy. Mouthfeel has a nice bite. Flavor is kind of bland....like it's missing something...like...flavor.

Pours a medium burnt copper with a pretty white head of moderate duration. Nicely crisp with hoppy floral notes. great taste, went well with green olive and anchovy pizza

Pretty good, but I expected more after reading the other reviews. Pours pretty with a very thick head. Body is very thin. Light and floral would be the 2 words that I would use to describe this beer's taste. Not what I expected after the other power punching brews that I have sampled from the Bear republic. Overall, this ale is good but not great. One of Bear's weaker offerings IMHO.

Bear Republic is often underapprciated, by me, because I forget how tasty their beers are and I guess I take it for granted that I can find their beers pretty much everywhere. The one came from a 22oz bottle and it was really nice. Great beer for a nice California evening.
The beer pours out a deep gold color, clear with a nice fluffed dirty white head. Aroma is citrusy, honey and bready. Flavor has a really nice balance of hops and malts with just enough of each to taste the individual characteristics and the overall blend of them together. Just really a sessionable APA if there ever is one. Kudos to BR for making "another" outstanding beer. -

XP poured a good looking hazy copper body, small head and not much lace though. Aroma of citrus hops, flavor had some malt notes to go along with the hops, slightly bitter but that faded quickly. Overall its a pretty good beer, an above average pale ale.

yet another standout effort from Bear Republic. This isn't a phenomenol beer, but it's significantly better (more aromatic and more flavor) than most pales. Light bodied and enjoyable. 6/09 better malt backbone than most pales without overpowering the lively hops.
