Alley Kat’s Summer Ale is broadly based on saison, a French style beer traditionally brewed in the autumn and winter months and typically consumed in during early summer. While saisons do not ordinarily contain fruit or spices, Alley Kat was inspired to infuse grapefruits, oranges, and black peppercorns to give its version an unexpected zing.

cloudy light gold colour. poured with a thin light head. melon-y smells present. strong tastes of grapefruit and slight orange. slight tingle on the tongue that isn't frowned upon. decent beer.

Hazy apricot coloured beer with a small light tan creamy head. Light effervesence. Pretty good 360 degree sticky lacing and solid retention of the minimal head throughout. Excellent sweet grapefruit aroma, light background cloves, light malts - steady smell to the bottom of my glass. Taste is there, but lacks anything amazing. Acidic with some orange for fruit and light malts. It's more bitter than anything with some pepper in the big spice that in blended with the bitterness. Yeast is obvious and so is the sourness. Never ending bitterness. Medium bodied, quite tart (too much) and a bit mouth drying. Lots of carbs. There is some stomach heat that goes with drinking this. Could be better, but does ok to follow the style. Should've been worse, but Alley Kat is really improving their quality.

Honey brown and slightly cloudy, zero head was produced barley even a skiff bubbles is on top, very boring looking beer, this beer does not scream drink me. Mmmm…. Strange smell melon flavored candy and malts, interesting to say the least, overall the sent is very sweet but diluted. Refreshing tasting beer weaker malts and lots of citrusy notes make up most of the beer, there are some peppery notes hiding in the back ground to. The beer has a very clean finish with no after taste, but way to thin feeling. Overall its a drinkable beer but nothing special.

Bottle: A sharp pour puts a hazy gold-amber ale in the thistle, with a decent 2 finger sticky white cap that lasts and laces. Aroma : bready malts, clover honey, citrus peel, spice and some wet hay mustiness. Moderate malting, light bodied, peppery dry mouth feel, light fruity-spicy character, The front side has a dose of malts with a dollop of honey then the spicy hop and medicinal pungent spice take over providing good balance, mid palate the citrus fruits appear to this layering then a dry peppery finish where spices give way to a light bittering. A good summer ale, light, refreshing, quenching and flavorful. Full points for this seasonal, thanks Mike.

Bottle: Poured a golden yellow color ale with a small bubbly white head with average retention. Aroma of sweet malt is pretty subdued with some subtle spices also being noticeable. Taste is a mix between some light pepper note and weak sweet malt. Body is definitely too thin and carbonation is not strong enough. Not bad overall but lacking a malt presence and probably more yeast character would have help this one.

pours an attractive clear orange with a decent sized white head... tiny tiny microscopic bubbles appear. the smell is of grapefruit and spice (faintly) taste is considerbly wheaty with a slight hint of citrus. i guess its alright... not there best by any chance!!
