C'est What Coffee Porter

In a lot of ways, beer and coffee were meant to be together weren’t they? This porter is one of those reminders that coffee isn’t just for breakfast any more. A murky brown pour with a slight foamy head is what I see in my glass. I can sense roasted malt, coffee, and some earthy hops on the nose. My tongue notices the bitter coffee flavour right away, but also senses some milk chocolate as well. We’re all happy!

The beer poured a solid dark brown colour with a creamy tan coloured head. The aroma was roasted malt, coffee, and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with mild carbonation. The flavour was chocolate, roast, and coffee and was very smooth. A very enjoyable beer.

I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but for some reason it's okay in beer. Colour - brownish black pour, huge frothy brown head. Aroma - chocolate, coffee, dark malt. Mouthfeel - medium to full bodied. Flavour - coffee and a hint of sweet chocolate. Overall - pretty good.

Tap at C’est What: Poured a light black color porter with a light foamy head with average retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of dry coffee with light roasted malt notes. Taste is also dominated by dry coffee notes with some light bitter roasted malt notes. Dryness is well balance with good carbonation but body is somewhat thin. Not bad for the style but nothing to write home about as well.

I'm not at all a coffee drinker, in all honesty I can't stand it, which made it so surprising that I enjoyed this porter so much. It's heavy body and rich flavour was carried very well. A shaded chestnut hue gave the otherwise black beer an attractive appearence. Coffee beans were very much predominant in the scent, though it did carry some complexity. Texture was fairly smooth as was the taste. I find many porters come across as stouts, but this had all the characteristics of a nice porter. I only had half a glass, my friend who finished off a pint said the beer became tedious and dull by the end. Guess that means you'll have to try it for yourself!
