Who doesn’t love a great beer? Where can I get a good local beer in Knoxville? What the heck is this Marble City thing all about? Among the answers to those questions lies the simple and unassuming story of Marble City Brewing Company. We’re reopening a once-beloved local microbrewery to offer suds lovers a high quality collection of craft beers. Kissing cousins (that’s what we call ‘em in Tennessee, doncha know?) Adam Palmer and Johnathan Borsodi of Chicago and a small town in Michigan, respectively, have teamed up with new head brewmaster Jennifer Muckerman, recently of St. Louis, to form a uniquely Knoxville product of epic proportions (okay, that may be a bit over the top). Luckily, the boys know its the girl of the group that’s really in charge here, as creating great tasting beer is priority number one. As soon as Jennifer powers up the vats, you’ll be able to savor lagers, stouts, pale ales, IPAs, and yes, even bitter, at some of your favorite watering holes in Knoxville and East Tennessee. When Adam figures out how to use a crescent wrench, he aims to fire up the bottling line to supply your neighborhood grocery and convenience stores with delectable delights you can enjoy at your next barbecue, dinner party or the comforts of your easy chair. And if Johnathan can take off the tie long enough to relax a little bit, you could join him in a celebratory toast at our own tasting room, The Quarry, set to open as soon as we can darn well make it so. Oh, and the name? Well you see, Knoxville was once known as Marble City because local quarries supplied vast amounts of marble, particularly Tennessee Pink, to major building projects like the National Gallery of Art and Supreme Court buildings in our nation’s capital. Our logo, created by the talented Namey Design Group, is adapted from this historical photograph of Jim Lay’s Marble City Saloon. Dare I suggest that a new Lexington beer is in the offing from the new Marble City Brewing Company? And that perhaps you’ll be able to enjoy it at one of the fine establishments on Central Avenue in the Old City? My, what symmetry you would have then. We hope you are as excited as we are about the launch of the new Marble City Brewing Company. Thanks for your interest, and do come back soon.
