330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Kvadrat. ABV is 8.2%. Dark brown colour, large beige head. Aroma of malts, brown kandij sugar, mild spices and exotic woodwork. Medium sweet flavour with brown malts, brown kandij sugar and caramel. Minimal hops.

750 ml capped bottle. Poured in the original Troubadour stemmed tulip glass a clear and burgundy-brown coloured Belgian Strong Ale with a two fingers dense, pillowy and tan foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Good lacing. The aroma is roasted malts, caramel, coffeish notes, dark riped fruits. The flavour is strong roasted malts, caramel, coffesih and chocolates notes, burnt sugar, fruity, raisins, prunes, red berries. The mouthfeel is crispy, creamy, thick, fulled and sweety-sticky. The texture is oily. This fulled bodied B S A has a long bitter and fruity finish. A nice Belgian Strong Ale.

A dark mahogany colored beer with a very big frothy textured, light beige head rising robustly above. There's great hang time on the head. Settles into a moderate ringlet. A dark fruit, chocolate nose. Same in the tasting with some burnt sugar and caramel. Sweet. Heavy and tarlike.

Dark ruby with light brown lacing foam head. Aroma is but weak, light caramel. Taste is light touch of coffee, bittersweet. Aftertaste is dry and long lasting, turning more bitter over time. (Velp 201303)

Pours medium brown with a decent head, lots of floaties. Aroma of brown sugar and caramel. Seems more like a brown ale than a stout to me, but still very good.

Wicked looking head, super super fine bubbles that almost seem like a fluid in themselves(although technically they are)....it seems to develop all kinds of hills as it settles, which I like. Super Nice and dark. Distinct cherry aroma, genadine, cranberries, sour, tart, belgian. Not the greatest Ive had, by far not the worst. Candi sugar, brown sugar on over cooked canned yams. Seems jammy, even a bit soupy like a Rioja is. Red wine, beaujolais. I am confused. The mouthfeel seems thin, but the flavours are prevelant and rounded and well balanced, however seems weak compared to most blegians. If this came from Canada or the States I would be impressed, though it is still not the quality of Unibroue or Dieu di Ciel. I love the flvours but the rest falls short.

from belgium, but labeled as a mild stout. reminds me in many ways of lion stout, with it's layers of malt, and complexity within an easy drinking package (and high [8.2]). little hops, lots of chocolate, sweet & spicy malts. not as good as Lion, but nice.

A couple of marked down singles enjoyed on an early Sunday evening. Pours a dark maroon with a thick brown head and very nice lacing. Smells of plums, smoke and chocolate. Rich and sweet with a woody almost smoked aftertaste. Finishes creamy and easy. Mixed chocolate candies with some brown sugar and black licorice thrown in. Rye bread and a splash of coffee. Very good and very drinkable Belgian "stout" so they say.

vegas...
Poured out a nice creamy yellowish brown cap that lasts seemingly forever, minor spotty lacing and the beer itself is murky brown with a hint of red. Aroma: pecans, odd chocolate, bit of molasses, concentrated fake red berry syrup, more nuts, yeast, three times so far I've thought I've noticed smoky bacon, dark high sugar fruit. The taste is really good and complex as well - thick, candied fruits? (dried prunes I think), chocolate milk (syrup made), zippy but mild spice - and I mean that in a very good way as it just shows up after mid taste, molasses, sweet soft berry candy, caramel, more spice that I cannot nail down (not licorice or cinnamon or cloves), smoke on the burp (more than once so far but not every time), butterscotch (thanks Oiznop!), and there is that spice again on the finish. Zippy on the mouth, comes across borderline full, leaves a thick film on my mouth, finishes tangy and sweet - a sweetness that belongs to caramel. An exceptional beer - I enjoyed this from first smell to last taste. Pretty much polished the last 3/4 in 5 minutes and now I'm awaiting the 8.5% to smash me back into reality. One of the most interesting beers that I brought back from the states in November. I can't remember the last time I pretty much slammed a beer of this quality. Sorry Brad. You would have thought it tasted like soap anyway....
