Trafalgar Left Coast Pale Ale

A weak attempt at a pale ale in my opinion. A hazy pour, gold in colour with red hues. The head is white, frothy, and apparently short lived. The aroma is grass, some weak hops, and some skunk. The flavour was slightly sour, with cereal malt, and weak hops

I tried this beer on February 16, 2010 after purchasing from one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a cloudy orange-gold with a 1" bubbly tan head. The aroma was grainy malt, florally hops, and some citrus and sulfur. The mouthfeel was thin to medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was citrusy hops, with some acidic notes in the finish.

Bottle: Poured a clear amber color ale with large light brown foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of sour with lemon is not the most pleasant with some acid hops. Taste is a weird mix between some unrefined cereal malt with some acid lightly citrus hops and an out-of-place lingering sourness. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not as bad as some of the other offering from this brewery bit still not that great.

Comes in a bomber with a best before date, clipped on the front label that reads, April 2010. Pours a hazy amber colour with a very small head and little lacing. Had a big aroma of butter at first pour, but now getting the hop, the fruits (like apricot and peach) and a bit of caramel. A nice medium mix of the hop and some grain malt. Medium-bodied with a little dry mouthfeel. Good hop taste in the aftertaste and a better product for Trafalgar.

Best before May 2010. Pours a cloudy reddish brown with a medium, off-white head, decent lacing. Nice hoppy aroma. Good amount of hops in the flavour, some pine and a light sweetness. Low carbonation with a somewhat thin mouthfeel. Solid brew from Trafalgar.

Bomber from the LCBO shelves: Pours a copper hazed pint of ale with a respectable 2 finger creamy white cap. Soft carbonation and fair glass lacing qualities. Oddly, when chilled to 45 deg.F or so there is very little nose - dry hopped beer is usually very floral at most serving temps - but it takes 50- 60 deg. F serving temp so we get some soft caramelized malts and demure resinous-earthy kent golding notes...nice nose but subdued. Body is a tad thin and so are the malts, we don’t get the big chew of caramalts one expects in a premium priced crafted APA.... none the less the hops are well infused in the profile, piney resinous and earthy-woody tones ride above the soft malting then go bitter in the finish with a funky musty after taste which is not unpleasant just unexpected in this style. Not a bad offering, no off tastes decent enough pale ale but I have to wonder if, for what you get here, the price warrants a second buy.
