Hop Strike! is a dry hopped Black Rye-IPA built from the ground up at Tommyknocker Brewery. This Beer is characterized by an intermingling of spicy citrus hops and chocolate malt creating an interesting complexity and great first impression on the nose. Hop Strike’s substantial 78 IBU's are balanced by the Chocolate Rye resulting in a nice depth of malt character and deep color.

A slightly different take on the black iPa style. Black malts, tootsie roll chocolate and spicy rye and hops. Fairly aggressive in both the malt and hop profile. Sweeter thankst in the style, but I dug it.

Black pour with a small white head; minimal lacing around the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate. Very good hop flavor up front with not as much bitterness as I anticipated. Nice roasted malt finish with the hop bitterness coming through at th end. A reall nice Black IPA.

A dark brown to black appearance with a beige head. The aroma contains some caramel, toffee, and air. The flavor is rather sweet with some chocolate and coffee. I get no citrus in any of this. This needs the IPA dropped of it. This is an ok stout but no IPA here.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a smallish off white head that quickly diminishes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is sweet roasted malts, rye and a little chocolate.
The flavor is heavy tarry bitter roast with some sweet malt, and some rye comes out in the strong bitter aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.
Overall, the flavors don't mesh at all. It just tastes weird with the harsh tarry bitterness, spicy rye and sweet malt. -

The American Black Ale have become a favorite. This one, a black colored beer with a small light beight foamy textured head. Not much hang time. But the light film and thin ringlet are impressive enough. A citric hop presence in the nose. A sweeter malt presence in the tasting. Medium bodied, significantly carbonated. I'm okay with this one.

Poured this into the glass a dark reddish brown colour with no head. just a thin little brown line. Nice sticky lacing residue around the glass however. Syrupy, molasses and brown sugar notes. Taste, after it warms up a bit gets sweeter and more chocolatey.

THis was my first Black IPA. It pour very dark brown and had a tan head. The aroma was malty with a strong hop flavor. It had a chocolate sweetness, the hops were mainly citrus and pine but there was a hint of spiciness. Also the rye was very muted and you really had to search for it.

Aroma is quite hoppy with a nice, tempting rye overtone and just a teeny hint of molasses. It pours a dark, nearly opaque mahogany brown with a fair fine-bubbled pale tan head. Flavor has tones of hops and rye, some bitterness but not too much, and hints of malt and caramel. Texture is rough and tingly, hardly smooth, quite pleasing. If you like unusual IPAs, this one is right up your alley.

It pours a very dark-brown, non-transparent, with thick light-brown head and copious lacing. An aroma of the rye chocolate malts, hops, pine, grapefruit, and mild spiciness. The mouthfeel is thin and watery. Flavors of the rye malts, chocolate, hops, grapefruit and citrus, brown sugar and molasses, and mild spices. Very tasty, although the mouthfeel could be a bit more.

Smells about as hoppy has hoppy can get. Some wood, Rye, earth, chocolate. Pours a very dark brown just not black.. but if it is black than it has the amazing dark cherry wood tone to it that is incredible. Medium body with good carbonation and a smooth finish. Flavor taste like a hop lick.. Some may like that not me, If you like Hopsicle from Moylans you will like this. It is very hoppy but atste like hop oil. Some sweetness and chocolate, but unfortunately the over powering hops hides everything else going on here.
