Raven. The name's an oxymron the beer is complex and stuning. Five malts and six hops combine to provide bitter chocolate flavours with dark roasted fruits. Raven pours dark with a beige head. Aromas of intense pine hops and sweet roasted malts. Flavours are a complex combination of bitter chocolate with pineapple and orange proceding a long bitter finish. Hops : Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi Ace. Malts : Maris Otter, Black and Chocolate Malt.

    (Now renamed Wild Raven.) On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Creamy beige head. Nice aroma of fruity and piney hops, some roasty notes in the background. The flavour is also fruity and piney with plenty of hop character, with a dry roasty and medium bitter finish. Good stuff.

    500 ml capped bottle. Poured in an English shaker pint glass an unfiltered and opaque strong brown-red, close to black, coloured Black IPA with a one finger tan and soapy foamy head that had a long retention and tons of micro bubbles and some bigger one. Soft carbonation. Some lacing. The aroma is heavy piney hops, roasted malts, fruity, grapefruits, vinous notes, burnt coffee beans. The flavour is rich, roasted and burnt malts, hint of ashes, grainy burnt coffee beans, bitter cocoa powder, a touch of spice and a deep grassy hoppy bitterness. The mouthfeel is quite thick and even a bit sticky. This medium to full bodied Black IPA has a long strong hoppy bitter finish. A very characterful English Black IPA, simply... good !
