Legend had is Capt’n Krunkles is the most feared pirate on the high seas. No one has seen him, his ship, or the great beer his band of pirates drinks has lived to tell about it. Until now. Made with a bombardment of hops to defeat your tastebuds in battle and all the black malt you can stand before walking the plank, this Black I.P.A. will make it worth going down with the ship.

About average for this style. Black IPAs are hit or miss for me, so this falls near the border. Decent amount of hops, though I prefer more of a malt balance. Aroma has some mild citrus and pine, but overpowered by some kind of musty smell. Glad I tried this in the winter mix-pack bundle, but wouldn't really want to sample this in a bomber or growler.

NICE. Pours black as black can be. Hoppy aroma, hoppy mothfeel, hops in the flavor. This is a terrific downright new style of beer, bring my two favorites together. I'd call it an IPS for India Pale Stout although there's nothing pale about it.

ha ha - another Georgia beer scored waaay too highly by the cat! more subdued and less fresh hop aroma and flavor than i was hoping for, though still nice, and better than average...but far from elite. Had it side by side with Hop in the Dark and Sublimely Self Righteous and it got it's southern ass thoroughly kicked. More complex and less roasted malt tones than usually found in a black ipa. Again, nice, but the bitter hops needed to be more aromatic and assertive.

Pours a deep, warm sable with a very thick, fine-bubbled, fairly persistent beige head, more like a stout or porter than an IPA. Aroma, though, is quite hoppy like a typical good IPA, except that it has an undertone of molasses and hints of smoke. Flavor is fairly hoppy and yeasty with a nice smoky overtone and subtle hints of roast coffee and brown sugar - delightfully different! I am in love! Texture is smooth and quite tingly, albeit just a teensy on the thin side; it leaves a pleasantly smoky, hoppy and fizzy finish. Recommended!
