Early German monks created “bock” beer as a hearty beverage that would help sustain them during their Lenten fasts. The first bock beers were dark, but soon came “blonder” styles such as maibock. Maibocks have a rich, malty, full flavor. And, since our first brewhouse was from Heimertingen in Bavaria, we’ve honored that heritage by giving the name to our first lager beer.“Bock,” by the way, is German for “male goat.” It doesn’t make sense to us either.

Out of the 4 in the variety pack, this was my least favorite. Balance was off a bit, and had a weirdish flavor hard to describe. The feel was ok, had some maltiness to the flavor....just seemed about average for a beer and subpar for the style. Seems like all 4 from the pack were a slight miss for me. This was a quick tour of the Summit, but I think that I have come off the peak.

This one is a bright, golden, amber colored beer. A medium in size, frothy textured white head rises above. There’s some hang time here. Settles eventually into a thick ringlet atop the body and thick splotches of soapy film aside the glass. A light, crisp body. The nose and tasting are bread and grassy hops. Overall a nice drink on a hot afternoon.

A copper body, o.k. head and lace, aromas of sweet bread, malts and faint floral hops. Flavor is much the same as the aroma, but there is also a nutty presence. Overall it was a pretty nice beer, i would buy this again.

This is my second favorite Summit seasonal--their Oktoberfest is excellent. Pours an amber-gold with a thick white head. Aroma is mostly malty and bready but with some floral notes. Taste is similarly malty but not overly sweet--enough hop bitterness to balance it out.

Very nice beer. It poured a clear amber color with a thin white head. It had a very fresh aroma with a little hops. The flavor was very balanced with a semi-sweet finish.

I do find myself liking the Summit beers most of the time. They come in at a pretty decent price; if i'm strapped for cash and i still can't find an SN I buy a summit which the EPA usually does the trick. Sometimes the styles can be a little off, this one was good for the most part, but i love my maibocks just a wee bit heavier, and a little more biscuity. Either way- Pours a dark amber colour with a medium sized off white head. Aroma is nice- caramel, a little burnt scent, possibly a little nutty at times. Taste is nice, smooth, again some candy like flavours- not too sweet, but just a little hint of something syrupy on the roof of the mouth. Finish lingers on and makes me wonder if there should have been something else to feel. Again- good beers, but maybe could use a little work.

This beer poured a nice dark copper color topped off by a creamy khaki colored head that retained pretty well leaving a small amount of lace down the sides of the glass. The Aroma was nice sweet malts and some nutty tones. The mouthfeel was medium to full bodied, creamy and smooth. The flavor was nutty with some roasty caramel malts and a nice bitter hop tone that lingered on throughout the entire beer.

The wonderful thing about the beers from Summit is that they tend to be great examples of their particular style. This maibock is nicely crafted and exceeded my expectations. Light bready aroma, very malty with some sweet and sour notes. Dark golden pour with a huge, thick white head and considerable lacing. Slow and steady carbonation throughout. Creamy with a thick dose of malt, the mouthfeel is filling and clean. A slight detection on the alcohol is noticeable but doesn't stand out in the least. Flavor was surprisingly complex. Rich malt backbone with a sprinkling of bittering hops. A hearty nutty flavor pulls through along with a sweet dry honey taste as well. I expected the beer to have a sweeter taste but it sure comes off nice and balanced. Aside from a stronger aroma I don't find anything else discouraging about this tasty spring time treat.
