The aroma of Black Bear Porter is very nice blend of chocolate and coffee with a hint at caramel. This poured a beautiful pitch black coloring with a tall head that lasted quite a long time. The robust coffee flavoring came through nicely in the taste, which was very smooth and not in the last overpowering. This went well as an alternative to Guiness for a traditional Irish meal of corned beef, steamed carrots, Dubliner cheese and soda bread.

Poured a dark brown, red color, with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, smoke, wood, and vanilla beans. Taste of more smoke, nuts, chocolate, and roasted malts.

solid black in color and very thick body. very nice tan head and great lacing. great aroma of complex hops. good tast of hops with a moderate amount of malts and a slight dry aftertaste. not shabby, but is smells better than it tastes.

This porter pours a deep black color from a 120z bottle. Small sized beige foamy head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee, but fairly mild. A medium bodied porter. Malts are chocolate and somewhat fruity. There is a bit of sour lactic flavor going on here so the beer may be going somewhere it shouldn’t. Fairly smooth tasting and an easy drinking porter, except for that lactic thing is really distracting. I will have to re-rate after sampling the other bottles in this month BOMC shipment. There are some nice chocolate flavors in there somewhere. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet and lactic.

poured from a bottle and it was jet black with a nice tan head that clung to the sides of the glass. Wow what a smooth smooth beer. Awesome flavor. Nice roasted coffee and chocolate flavors that are just very velvety on the palate. Well done brew!

Bottle. Poured a clear, dark-brown (almost purplish) color with a medium light brown head. Nice lacing. Nice coffee aroma. Flavor is strong with a nice coffee presence. Toffee is also pretty apparent. Porters are usually not my favorites, but this was a pretty good one.
