Small batch release: Sprecher Black IPA contains seven varieties of malt balanced with a generous amount of predominately Cascade hops. This medium-bodied beer begins smoothly with roasty flavors thanks to the malts, and has a pleasantly bitter finish thanks to the hops. It is both a big beer and delicate one. Every sip will keep your palate engaged.

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6
Strong aroma is quite resiny with a citrus underpinning and a smoky note. It pours a beautiful warm sable with a thick, frothy and rather persistent light tan head. Flavor has a hoppy, woody core and a nice smoky tone - but not much else. Has a watered-down feel to it. Texture has only average body an fizz, and the smoky, hoppy finish is unpleasantly green-wood bitter. Too bad the flavor didn’t match the tempting appearance, or this would have been a damned good beer. Well, better luck next batch.

Bottle no. 11350 written on the back label with Gold Sharpie, from Bearden Beer Market: thin jet black pour, only slightly murky, tall and sustained light tan head that leaves tons of lacing - very handsome beer. Roasted piney-choco aroma, roasted malts, very slight citrus and molasses - fairly rich aroma. Flavor is cocoa-pine, roasted malts, again a light sweet from a molasses-type flavor, really nice long bitter linger, pretty rich with a thin mouthfeel to it. Pretty bold stuff from Sprecher - they're usually tame.
