good stuff, but didn't leave the holy crap impression that regular old unearthly did. it was already a pretty malty beer and the oak aging seemed to mute the hops even a little more. there was good balance here, just not for a dipa. nice mix of vanilla, oak, malts, and bitter citrus hops.

Poured a darker golden/orange with a very light tan colored head. Lots of floral/pine scents going on. Wow! Massive hop flavor and I can taste the oak! Very strong alcohol taste on the way down. This is a sipping brew...be careful not to over do it, this one will sneak up and kick you in the arse! I did not find the bottle that I purchased to be overly sweet, the huge amount of hops and oak flavorings left a somewhat salty aftertaste on my tongue, but not in a bad way. Would purchase again for a special occasion.

Southern Tiers are generally great beers at a good value. This one a cloudy copper colored beer with a reddish brown soapy textured head rising robustly above. Good hang time and impressive lacing of high rising film and thin ringlet and dusting of cap. Big bold, in your face citrus hops, ethanol esters that remind one of bourbon. The alcohol is in the tasting as is the citrus hops. Let this one warm and it mellows into a medium, creamy body. But not for the faint of heart.

Okay. The oak, the vanilla...too much. Sweet. Really sweet. Not nearly enough bitterness to balance out. I immediately regretted opening this just for myself...fearing I would throw myself into some sort of diabetic coma. Fortunately, I survived.

Aroma is strongly hoppy and rather yeasty, with a sour citrus undertone - mainly grapefruit and orange - and a hint of oak. It pours a somewhat hazy orange amber with a fluffy and fairly persistent off-white head that leaves some respectable lacing. Flavor is quite hoppy, slightly sweet and slightly but pleasantly bitter, with a firm undertone of sour orange and a definite oak hint. Texture is rough and lively, leaving a nice tingle and a hoppy and citrusy finish. I recommend this to all hop lovers, along with "regular" Un*Earthly.

Bottle, 11% ABV, as Southern Tier Oak Aged Un*Earthly India Pale Ale, RBNAG 2009 in Vatlandsvåg. Deep golden colour. Intense aroma of alcohol, American hops, oak and malt sugar. The flavour is too sweet and alcoholic with loads of American hops, notes of oak too. Overkill.

stu-meat bought this over, i am excited.. . perfumey hops and vanilla oak aromas .. . apricots , pine, sap, and oak dominate the mouth .. . smooth and tasty, but the intense sweetness can get tiresome after a full glass .. share a bottle! .. . a very nice well made brew, but prepare for oaky sweetness! .. awesome! .. .love the label too! .. a mean selfish S.O.G (son of a gun)

Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy orangey color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention and not much lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with some floral and citrus hops also thrown in the mix. Taste is much similar to a barleywine then an imperial IPA with dominating sweet malt with a very light oak and a floral bitter finish. Body is quite full with limited filtration and no much carbonation. I honestly think the regular version is better.

Thanks eagle. Poured an orangish color with good head and okay lacing. Aroma was of citrus hops some oakness. Flavor was pine citris some darker fruits in there, oak was toned down. Solid beer for sure.

Bottle from SL, fresh off the truck: amber to orange in color, nice white colored head, frothy and splotchy good lacing. The aroma was citrus hops and some earthy bitter hops too with some oaky notes, quite nice. The flavor was resinous, piney, citrus rinds, definite hop presence, followed by some fruity malty flavors underneath and some strong oak. Really great stuff, some honey as in the non-oak-aged version. The mouthfeel was moderately bodied, not sticky, bitter, yum. A great production by ST! Re-rate, April 05, the oak still quite prominent, noticed more vanilla elements and perhaps even some slight char (from the inside of the barrels?). An overall nice experience even the second time, ratings unchanged.
