Double IPAs are hoppier, maltier and have more alcohol compared to their little siblings, standard IPAs. Hercules Double IPA is not for the faint of heart. It is, however, fit for the gods. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of hops from start to finish. Its hefty backbone of nutty, malt character balances its assertive hop profile. Hercules Double IPA is 9.1% alcohol by volume and 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

12oz. bottle (bottled Sep 30, 2010) - Slight head. Somewhat yellow-amber body. Micro fine carbonation bubbles. Aroma of butterscotch and sweet hard candy. Initial flavor can be best described as sardines, awakening into oranges and tangerines. Finishes off with alcohol. Definitely puckery from the abundance of hops! Hmmmmm...... (HAPPY IPA DAY EVERYONE!!!)

On tap at Pizza Port/Ocean Beach
Appearance: Clear amber with a nice off-white head and a good amount of lacing left in the glass
Aroma: Floral and citrus
Taste: Citrus, sweet malts and toffee
Very nice, the alcohol is well hidden. It was on the sweet side for me though.Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9
Poured into a pure copper color and slightly off white head. There is a sharp citrus aroma with a bit of malt. The first taste is all hops. Starts off with a strong hop flavor followed up by a hoppy bite. Initially there seems to be a little spice flavor that leads to a almost tin sensation. As the beer warmed this faded. Now I sense the a little malt behind the large hop flavor and bite. A good mix.

On tap at the Bocktown Bar & Grill in Robinson. First let me begin by saying IPA is not my favorite style, so don’t expect a glowing review of this beer, tho it is well within it’s style. Pours nice, almost transparent yellow orange with a nice head. Head is alabaster ivory and it really hangs in there. Good hoppy floral aroma that sticks out in your face. Of course the flavor is hops, hops and more hops. Am I chewing on a big grapefruit peel? Seems like it. Exceptionally hoppy, can’t ignore that fact. It really overwhelms the flavors of this beer, but I guess it is supposed to. This is an excellent example of the style. If you like hos, you gotta have this on you must try list. One step above titan as far as hops go. Finish is similar to the effect you get when you eat an almost ripe grapefruit rind. Never would have guessed this is 9%, it is hidden well.

On tap at Beer O'Clock Chamonix. Clear amber with a decent, off-white head. Hoppy and herbal with fruity notes. Malty and sweet with solid hoppy and herbal flavours with a fairly strong bitterness too. Certainly on the sweet side, but decent stuff for sure.

Bottle, not only my 900th rating, but my frst double IPA: Poured a rusty copper reddish brown with an off white creamy head. The aroma hopped out of the bottle as I poured it, which made me excited to try. As I took my normal sniffs there was that continued hoppiness, but also a nice sweet malt aroma. The taste literally slaps my tongue awake. At first it has that bitter kick that slightly subsides to give you a glimpse of sweet toffee malt. The finish is dry with that nice hoppy residual alcohol taste. I’m glad I grabbed this for my 900th!

A big tenacious tan head with tons of sticky lace starts it off. Same old clear copper/light amber hue. Same old freakin big ass, piney, fruity, little bit of pencil shavings, hoppy nose with definate malty notes backing them up. Same old full bodied hop monster. Usual overdone PNW hop flavors, piney, citrusy, resiny, oily, lip smacking, sticky, hop sweetness with the obligitory hop drenched malt underpinnings that round out this unoriginal, overhopped excuse of a frankinstinian IPA. Same old dry hop overload of a finish. Well balanced, to the hoppy side of course, YUP! Alcohol is buried by hops but still noticeable after it warms a bit. Just fargin incredible. God i love it! Step aside Dreadnaught theres a new hop monster in town! A BIG thanks to snowtiger for this one, thanks bro!

Freeing my inner Prometheus... Wish List beer. Fresh too: Bottled Date Nov 1 2013. Perfect copper pour, medium to short creamy white head, copious amounts of lacing. Pine, grapefruit, caramel, pineapple all in the nose and palate, nice linger and noticeable alcohol bite, especially after it warms a touch. The malts presence is huge as are the hops. Massive IPA - worthy. Hercules! Hercules!

Hazy amber colour pour. Would have liked the thick off-white head to stick around a little longer but it does leave a nice lacing. Yum malty, citrusy, aroma with a hint of spice and earthy notes. Taste of sweet caramel, orange peel, grapefruit, pineapple. Also a touch floral. Finishes with strong pine resin. Dry long lasting bitter aftertaste. Slick and smooth full body body. Great stuff.

This beer was advertised as being brand new to my area last week so I picked up a bomber. Shame on me for not checking the bottle date first (Oct 2012)--the hop aroma and taste had all but faded away, leaving a big boozy malt bomb. Very disappointing that my local would accept and sell an old DIPA like this. I would be willing to revisit but only if the bottle is very fresh.
