Sinebrychoff’s Porter is the only Finnish porter and Sinebrychoff’s oldest special beer. Produced continuously since 1957, the recipe has remained virtually unchanged from one decade to the next. Sinebrychoff’s Brewmasters Nils Sandman and Boris Orlo as well as Laboratory Manager Aarne Rahiala are credited with the development of Sinebrychoff’s Porter. Legend has it that the yeast required for the manufacturing of porter was smuggled in a test tube from the British Isles to the Hietalahti brewery. The yeast was preserved in the brewery’s own laboratory and transferred only several decades later for processing at The Technical Research Centre of Finland’s yeast bank in Espoo. Sinebrychoff’s Porter is a dark top fermented beer made with strongly flavoured roasted malts and plenty of hops. The top fermentation process adds fruity aromas. Sinebrychoff’s Porter has a malty, roasted flavour with traces of chocolate, coffee and liquorice aromas. Sinebrychoff’s Porter is not filtered; the yeast is removed by separation.

(Bottle). Pitch black porter, even held against the light. Tan head. Complex aroma of coffee, cocoa, dried fruits, ensilage(!) and oak. The full and rich flavour has coffee, bitter chocolate and loads of roasted maltiness. Not too sweet, just the right bitterness in the aftertaste. This must be a world class porter!

11.2 oz bottle from World Of Beer. This is one of the darkest beers I’ve seen. It’s just absolutely black with a brown to light brown head. Full inviting aroma of molasses, dark fruit like dates and plums. The aroma is complex. I also get roasted malts, chocolate malts, and a bit of alcohol. From the fist two sips I get a metallic note that de-rails a nice tasting beer just as it was getting started. This off note does seem to subside as more beer is consumed. If this was a 22oz the second half of the beer would be flawless. So behind the initial metallic shavings I taste flavors that mirror the aroma with molasses, dates, plums, roasted malts and chocolate malts. Overall a nice tasting brew that leaves a rich roasted and chocolate malt taste behind.

Thick black oily pour. Unfortunately the beautiful brown head leaves too quickly. Metallic and roasted malt aroma. Roasted malt flavour with liquorice, some chocolate and coffee. Got a little exited when I was pouring this beer. Looked thicker and slicker than it is. Although it's still ok.

What an aroma! Smokey with hints of malts and toffy. Pours a very thick chocolate black with a light brown head that takes its time. Taste is extremely mild with hints of metalic taste but overall not much to write home about. The texture is what makes this a very nice beer, consitancy of hot chocolate and it finishes off nice. At 7.2 percent you can't taste the higher alcohol content. I will love to try a newer bottle of this. Buy not for the taste but for the texture.

fruity and sweet aroma and taste with tons of dark chocolate, fruit and licorice. almost too much going on, but they manage to pull it off. Thick and syrupy as well.

Finally made it down to World of Beer and this was my first from that establishment. A black colored beer and one would expect. A medium sized creamy textured, off white head rises briefly above. Settles into a thin ringlet. Dark roastiness in the nose. An interesting dry roastiness in the tasting. Most unique Baltic Porter I’ve tried to date. Nice full bodied and smooth. I’ll be back to this one sometime soon.

I have been wanting to try this for a while, so finally bit the bullet and paid the price for a single. Employee at my beer retailer recommended it. This has that European feel versus many of the porters that the microbrewers make here in the US. Don't know if I had a baltic porter before this, but I like it. Porters are one of my favorite styles, but some of the imported ones that I tried that are this price are only in the 4-6% range. I hardly noticed the difference in taste and mouthfeel with this one, as far as the alcohol bite....so having a similar flavor with added buzz is a plus. A little richer too, in both body and taste. Dark, black, oil-like appearance....appears to be a hint of red there too. Smell isn't that great though....soy-saucy, but that is usually the case with these dark beers. Lots of chocolate malt and coffee flavor, with just enough hops to offset, but this is mostly a malt bomb. Still debatable if I'd sample again for $3.50, but if they had this in 6-packs for a reasonable price I'd be all over it.

Aroma of cocoa, caramel, toffee, and port, with a hint of dried dates. Tastes dry with roasted coffee and some peated malt, reminiscent of a mid-western forest floor. A fairly strong offering.

Fantastic aromatics full of cocoa, wet tobacco, port wine and oatmeal. The scent is inviting and very robust. Rich brown body, lasting brown head, and thick lacing. Medium bodied, lightly creamy with a lingering bitterness. Nutty, woody malts with some burnt flavors. Chocolates and mild coffee coupled by a mixture of dark berries. Well hopped and enjoyable.

Thick brown/black pour with a thick sustained tan head and ample lacing. Nice roasted malts, slightly burnt brown sugar, bittersweet chocolate, a little java and some hops in the aromas. Taste is rich with the malts upfront enhanced by a chocolate/java taste and slight bitterness. This is another one marked off the wish list - very good.
