A Baltic porter brewed in collaboration with Lew Bryson. This style is difficult to find outside of the Baltics. What a shame! The grist consists of lots of Munich malt and some chocolate and other specialty malts. A Bavarian lager yeast is used to create this. Dark and mysterious, subtle and well, it is called the Hammer. For those who care, Perkuno was the Baltic thunder god.

Mmm mmm. Poured dark brown color with really dark brown head. Aroma was outstanding, rich malt and chocolate. The flavor was rich chocolate, some smokiness, roasted malt...sweet, but not overly so. Wonderful complexity! Mouthfeel was smooth, but maybe a little flat, but definitely not thin. Really nice.

Black with a dissapearing brown head. Rich, bold and sugary aroma of cdark chocolate, coffee, marzipan and peppery alcohol. Warming flavour of sugar, dark chocolate and black coffee. Coffee beans, dark chocolate, sugar and with some spicy alcoholic notes in the long finish. Feels rather "european" to me.

This beer poured an opaque black color topped with a small dark brown head that lasted until the bottom of the glass. The aroma was very rich roasted malts with some slight chocolate aromas thrown in as well. The mouthfeel was full bodied and round, slightly sticky. The flavor was coffee, very smokey, and also had some rich sweet dark chocolate notes as well.

A nice black pour whith a white head. Aroma was rather blah with hints of chocolate the stand out. Taste was a bit like soy sauce with some smokiness thrown in. Also some chocolate and maybe some dark fruit there. Nothing really exceptional, although I'd drink more of it.

Black opaque colour, small brown head. Roasted malt, sweet caramellish notes in aroma. Sweet caramel, old coffee and roasted malt in flavour. Aftertaste is mainly roast and coffee. Sticky, but pleasant palate.

Pours just like you'd want it to: Pitch black topped off by a foamy dark tan head. Then the head doesn't hold out, but damn it's pretty to start out with. The aroma is perfect with huge, booming chocolate, a slight burnt bread sharpness and a nice bit of fruitiness. The flavor is a bit of a let down after that but still good. Has a slight sour aftertaste though. Mouthfeel starts off with a bit of a sting on the tongue from the carbonation followed by creaminess. Great beer, but something in the flavor is dragging it down but I can't place my finger on it.

Perkuno's hammer? Boy they do come up with some weird names don't they? Very good porter. Not in my top 5 but still a good beer. Nice foam brown-black color to it.
