3 Floyds has a reputation as the Midwestern kings of alpha (hops), and it seems that one of our beers helped to lure them down the lupulin-paved path. Chico King is a mash-up of our mutual passion for hoppy pale ales and combines a uniquely robust malt body with intense citrusy and fruity new school hop varietals. 3 Floyds marches to the beat of their own (double kick) drum when it comes to collaboration, often partnering with comic book artists, tattoo parlors or heavy metal bands when inspiration strikes. These eclectic beers are coveted throughout the Midwest and some beers, like the legendary Dark Lord Imperial Stout, have spawned something akin to a beer-themed holiday in the brewery’s hometown of Muenster, IN.

Pours clear golden amber with a thick and persistent buff head. Hoppy aroma has a firm fruity underpinning. Flavor is quite hoppy, more woody than evergreen, with a sweet fruity underpinning. Texture is lively and rather firm. Budweiser shmudweiser - here is a better choice for "King of beers"!

A dark amber colored beer with a moderate sudsy textured, light tan head rising above. There's some hang time on the head. A thick ringlet and light persistent cap are left. I get biscuit malt in the nose. I get more of that malt and a grassy hoppiness. It is an easy drink. Full bodied smoothness.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear light copper amber with a hug rocky off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is biscuity nutty malts and grassy hops and a little fruit.

The flavor is sweet biscuity crystal malt with a little fruit and grassy floral hops. There's a bit of a bad homebrew twang to it. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with slightly prickly carbonation.

Overall, my least favorite beer camp so far. Hoppy unexciting amber.

Aroma is at first a little too malt forward but opens up nicely into a fruit forward bouquet. Nice body. Super drinkability. Not as hoppy as expected (45?) but expertly made and balanced. Waves of fruity hops and caramel and bready malt. Citrus and pineapple. Good stuff.

2nd sample from the Beer Camp Across America. Almost like an IPA. Great bitterness and citrus notes here. Decent malt content for a pale ale, but smooth enough to keep that crispy refreshing feel. Could be dry-hopped. Light to medium orange appearance....darker than most in this style. This is also my first sample from Three Floyds, as they are not distributed here in FL. One of the best pale ales that I had, definitely in a while.

Sampled on 7/9/2014. This American Pale Ale pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, citrusy and grapefruity. A medium bodied American Pale Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are grapefruity and citrusy. Juicy. Decent carbonation. A malty up front, citrusy hopped American Pale Ale. Mild, long lasting bitterness at the finish. Nice balance between the malts and hops. Very solid beer. I would buy this one quite often. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
