Pours out just the way I like them, pitch black with a massive foamy head. The aroma is not very heavy but I can smell the malt. The mouthfeel is smooth and thick. The taste is in your face roasted malt. This reminds me of a oatmeal stout.

This beer caught my eye with the mermaid on the label, plus it is a porter! The aroma was so coffee-good! The taste was just as roasted. The coffee quotient is the best part of the beer. Really appreciate 22 oz. bottles of a good-tasting beer. State of Washington brews always grab my interest. This one won me over three different ways: coffee taste and aroma|Washington brewery|pretty mermaid on the label.

Not rich enough to have with, say, a chocolate dessert, but stands well on it's own. The feel is a little on the thin side, which is the only knock on the beer, and it's really not that bad. The aroma is nice roasted malt, a touch of smoke, and hops, chocolate, coffee. Flavor similar but a little richer. Didn't get it at first after a smores, but as the smores-layer in my mouth went away and the beer warmed, I dug the flavor, especially the roasted slight smokiness.

First sample from Scuttle. A solid porter. Pours a dark brown with creamy mocha head. Tastes like an old-style porter, a bit on the thinner side. Good balance. Looks like we all are giving this a 4.0 so far!

Pours a rich, opaque sable with a thick, frothy, light tan head. Smoky, malty aroma has a firm overtone of molasses and hints of miso and coffee. Flavor has smoky, malty and nutty tones with hints of molasses and coffee and a bit of hoppy bitterness. Texture is smooth and fizzy, a teensy on the thin side but still good. Overall, not excellent but worth at least trying.

It’s cold outside. So what to drink? A porter! This one is a deep dark brown with reddish ting. A small creamy texured beige head rises above. A moderate amount of hang time but settles into a really nice film riding up the sides of the glass from the body and light clouds atop that same body. The nose is slightly sweet, roasted malt and hints of semisweet chocolate. Like the nose the flavors are on the sweet side, but not overbearingly so. Well balanced by the roastiness, chocolately notes. As it warms the body thickens, not a lot, but enough to enjoy totally the creaminess.

I'm just finishing one of these at this very moment, and I'm really enjoying it. The colour is very dark, almost black and comes with a moderate tan head. Aroma is a mild maltiness, and it tastes of roasted malt and to a lesser extent, some coffee. Not at all "thin" in mouthfeel like some other porters.
