Amber-copper color with a moderate sized off-white head and a thin layer of retention. The aroma is yeasty, banana, clove and strong bubblegum. Flavor adds dark fruit and honey to go along with much of what the aroma shows and is strongest upfront. This finishes a tad thin. A little different than many Saisons I’ve had but overall a solid beer.

12.13.05 12oz bottle, completely unsolicited thanks to whaleman! Bottle dated Nov 27, 2005. A golden amber pour with lasting but small white head; plenty of sediment that quickly precipitates to the base of the glass. Aroma is vibrant and yeast-filled with citrus blossom, sage, spearmint, band-aid, celery, and lots of coriander. A peppery bite up front gives way to a cereal graininess, a mild peach skin and dried apricot malt, floral perfumes, and completed by a dull astringency. This beer wants to be a lovely and spicy star, but comes up a step behind its potential. I hope some of the brewers making saison in the US stick with it long enough to really develop and nail the style. Thanks for the unexpected treat, Dave!

05 Hop in the City/KC. Hazy yellow/orange. Not too much different than the Grand Cru. Horsey, citrus, and peppery. I think it was sweet for a saison. A fine drink. Just not one of the better examples.

Orange gold color, slightly cloudy. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is fruit and sweet, with hints of coriander and other spices and bubble gum. A medium bodied saison. Malts are fruity and sweet. Yeasty and slightly spicy. A touch of the earthiness one expects from a saison. Nice balance. A milder flavored beer. Nice carbonation. Smooth taste. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

2006 Rating: Reduced hop presence from a year ago...or was I just an idiot back then? Probably a little bit of both. Anyway, very nice spiciness and malt flavors, if anything it is a bit simple this young, I'll have to lay some back and see what happens. RERATE: Much improved since last year. This beer has been reborn into a glorious, flavorful and powerful ale. It coated the glass in rich lace and maintained a creamier, light head for the duration. Loaded with yeast spiciness and much more hop flavor than any belgian I can recall, and it works astonishingly well. Schlafly, you've done it again, congratulations. PREVIOUS RATE:Some yeast and citrus come through and not too spicy. This poured a pleasant orange which I can't say I've seen before, but with almost no head. On the whole it was good, but kind of weak, I'll have to try an authentic Saison.

Pours a cloudy, amber orange color, not much head to speak of, but good carbonation. Aroma is fruity and citrus, with some yeast in smell. Also some tart fruitiness in the taste, reminds me of apricot or plum skin. Bitter, yeasty aftertaste that hung around a bit too long.

GABF2004... Poured a golden color with a white head. Aroma of citrus, melon, and funky yeast. Taste exhibited nice yeast, banana, clove, and sweet citrus, however it seemed rather weak for a saison, and I couldn’t detect many spices either.
