This traditional ale is brewed with an interesing blend of malts, giving it a complex malt flavor with deep notes of toasted malt biscuit, nut, and caramel. The hops in this satisfying ale are Noble Spalt from Bavaria and citrusy Goldings which we select from a single farmer we know in Britian's East Kent. Cheers!

I was really looking forward to this Brown Ale. I was mildly disappointed, but I still would get it again if it was on tap. I like the appearance and the head, but the mouthfeel, and flavor made me think, do I really like this? Still, I am happy that SA is making an effort to compete with the imports and micro crowd, and hopefully this is a start. Now, all we need is a Stout. KMB

Aroma is rich and malty, with strong undertone of molasses and a nip of salt. It pours a nice transparent brown, a rather pretty color. Flavor is strongly malty, some hop hints and a little sweetness, just a touch of bitterness and a little smokiness. It feels a little thin, but is still a very enjoyable ale.

Nice caramel and malt aroma, with a one finger head that dissipates slowly leaving good lacing. Medium bodied mouthfeel, and a flavor balanced between malt and hoppy, with a slightly toasted aftertaste. Just a bit too bland for my liking.

Bought as a part of a Harvest 12-pack and pleasantly surprised... nice all around - and far better than Newcastle, but nothing extraordinarily distinguishing. I'm not a brown ale fan, but could drink this occassionally.

This was a good brown ale. It doesn't compete with Newcastle in my book, but it's good. It was awesomely smooth with a nice, strong taste and without a powerful aftertaste. Good beer.

Sampled on 10/8/2009. This brown ale pours a deep brown color from a 12 oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with decent retention and nice lacing. The aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet, touch of chocolate. A medium bodied brown ale. The malts are caramel and nutty. The hops are lightly earthy. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Hints of chocolate and toasty bread, Some nuttiness at the finish. Very nice. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Part of the 2009 Harvest Collection. Surprisingly good for the style. Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights and a medium sized white head. Sweet malt aroma and taste along with caramel and a hint of hops.

I really liked this Brown. I was taken back by the simple complexity of this ale from SA. Toffee and nut fragrence meets you on the opening. Mouthful is nice and full. Drank straight from the bottle. I get this when ever I find it. I am very intersted in the rest of the SA line up!

another brown that isn't bad, but does absolutely nothing to seperate itself. It's a little better blanced and complex than average, but not much, and has less flavor and body. OK effort for the style, though...but boring

My first Brown Ale. I know this isn't as good as some of the Oud Bruins of Europe. Nice ruddy color. The head leaves us quickly, never to return. Nice nut like flavor. A nice jump off point for brown ale lovers.

It poured a dark mahogany color with little head. It was kind of disappointing when it came down to it. Just average, really. You could say it was like a one night stand: you were glad you had it, but in the end it was just average and you won't be doing it again.
