This bold, imperial brown ale gets its body from a team of malts including Caramel malt for sweetness, flaked barley for dense foam, a bit of Chocolate malt for its deep color and Aromatic and Munich malts to add even more depth. German and Perle hops add a touch of bitterness to balance the malty sweetness. The addition of rich Sumatra coffee takes this perfectly balanced imperial brown ale to a decadent level.

355 ml bottle, from Systembolaget, shared by my son Steinar. Dark brown colour, small beige head. Aroma of cold coffee and brown malts. Distinct flavour of sharpish coffee and slightly dry malts. Not really a favourite of mine.

Pours out a extremely dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is 100% roasted coffee. The mouthfeel is above average for a ale. The taste is total coffee and just a tad bitter. This is good but I don't think it's a beer I would care to drink. More than one of at a setting.

Pours translucent chocolate brown with a thick and rather persistent buff head. Aroma delivers a strong note of quality roast coffee riding toasted malt and a hint of hay. Flavor delivers bold coffee, caramel, chocolate, roast malt and woody hop notes - woo hoo, this is a delight! It is fairly sweet but not cloying. Mouthfeel features firm body and good fizz. Climb this mountain and grab a cup of Sumatran - and save the tigers.

12 oz bottle, bottled on 3/31/16. Pours brown with a big pillowy tan head that retains well and leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is sweet lactose and chocolate malt with lots of fudgy roast coffee and a bit of hazelnut.
The flavor is sweet milky chocolate malt with acidic roast coffee and some nuttiness and a lingering bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, a nice coffee beer. I'd like it better if the sweetness and bitterness blended together better. -

I was curious what this would taste like. I like sumatra coffee.Poured a nice dark color, smaller top. Aroma was excellent, and when i tasted it i knew it was one of the best beers i have had.I will highly recommend this beer. Well worth the price.

I picked this beer up from Eli's Povisions in Roanoke, VA. This beer was outstanding! The aroma was magnificent! Tons of coffee on the nose. The flavor represented the aroma but the malts of the brown ale still shine through. Wonderful beer! Great job Founders.

Dark brown pour with red highlight when held up to the light. Small, quickly disappearing tan head that settles on the rim of the glass. Aromas of dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt and caramel. Coffee and roasted malt lead the flavors with notes of dark chocolate and roasted nuts. I love coffee beers (stouts and porters) and this imperial version of a brown ale is tasty and fulfilling. Alcohol is well hidden, but sneaky if you have more than one. A must try for all coffee beer fans.
