According to the United States Census Bureau, there are over 67.8 million fathers in America and the number one gift for dads on Fathers Day: a TIE. This year for Fathers Day, Rogue Ales & Spirits is providing fathers with an alternative a unique gift hell appreciate and wont have to return…Dads Little Helper Black IPA. Dads Little Helper Black IPA is created with GYO Certified hops and barley grown on Rogues Micro Hopyard and Micro Barley Farm. It is brewed using 9 ingredients: Malteries Franco-Belges Carawheat, Weyermann Melanoidin, Weyermann Carafe Special II & Rogue Micro Barley Farm RiskTM Malts; Newport, Chinook & Rogue Micro Hopyard Rebel Hops, Pacman Yeast & Free Range Coastal Water. After the death of his wife, Henry Jackson Smart was left to raise his 6 young children alone. His courage, love, selflessness and dedication inspired his daughter, Sonora Smart Dodd, to organiz the first Fathers Day on June 19th, 1910. In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Fathers Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established it as a permanent day of national observance. Rogues 42-acre Micro Hopyard is located in Oregons Wigrich Appellation and the Rogue GYO Barley Farm is located in Oregons Tygh Valley Appellation. The Growers, Farmers, Maltsters, Millers, Mashers, Brewers, Fermenters, Distillers, Smithers, Ocean-Agers and Smokers of the Rogue Nation Department of Agriculture remain dedicated to saving the terroir of Oregon hops and barley one acre at a time by growing their own. Dads Little Helper will be available in 22oz serigraphed bottles and on draft starting May 1st, 2011.

Very dark brown pour. Great head retention and lacing. Roasted malt, milk chocolate and a bit of hops in the aroma. Flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee blended well with the pine, grapefruit and earthy hops. Impressed with this style and this beer.

Pours a thick creamy frothy light brownish head and has a fairly dark brown appearance. Thick dirty lacing. Aromas of dark roasted malts, yeast, earthy and resin hops. Flavours are quite malty, definitely Munich malts and also quite wheaty and yeasty. Hops bitterness shows just a little bit. Some nutty hints as well as a faint molasses taste. Fairly smooth and silky mouthfeel. Medium retention. Easy to drink. Liking it very much!

The beer pours a cocoa-cola colour with a long lasting creamy tan coloured head. The aroma is roasted malt, citrus, and weak hints of molasses and caramel. The mouthfeel is full-bodied, creamy, and average carbonation. The flavour is roasted malt, weak grapefruit, and notes of coffee and caramel.

pours slightly darker than cola with khaki head. aroma is roasted malts, pine & spice. pleasant. firm fizzy feel. moderate bitterness on the palate, with low citrus, but lively spicy and herbal hops. Well balanced.

Chocolate dark brown with decent brownish foam head, sticking to lip, lacing to glass. Aroma is bitter chocolate. Taste is decent IPA hop bitterness, yet chocolate is duly present. Good pleasant aftertaste. (Amsterdam 201210)

First of all, Rogue needs better models for their bombers, preferably female ;). This beer pours a deep dark brown colour with a decent sized brown head. Citrusy hops hit you immediately and well before the roastiness reaches you. The flavour is like a citrus infused coffee....quite good.

Dark pour with creamy tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate and raisins and hops. Flavor piney, coffee, chocolate and then the hop bitterness. Bitterness lasts a while. A nice black IPA.

A dark brown colored ale with tinge of red. Big, frothy, light tan head rises robustly above. Good hang time on this one. It settles eventually into a thick ringlet and splotches of film. The nose is mostly roasted malt. In the flavors the citric hops come to the front, balanced by that roastiness. Nice, full body. Well crafted.

Coffee black pour with tight cream colored head which leaves copious amounts of gentle lacing. Almost burnt aroma of malts with a touch of nut, molasses and earthy and slight grapefruit hops. Taste is a tad richer than the aroma with more hops presence, very nice earthy bitter linger, offset by some toasted and molasses-kissed malts. This style is growing on me - I like the nuances of some of these American Black Ales.
