May 2010 - Chestnut brown pour, nice one finger frothy head and outstanding lacing. Aroma of pine-like hops. This one is a pretty great balance of roasty malts with a cocoa sweetness and a nice citrus/pine bitterness. The Portsmouth web blog said the malts weren’t supposed to import a roasted flavor...ah, no...but that’s not a complaint. This seems more like a stout than an IPA. Silky smooth mouthfeel. I have not been a huge fan of some of the other black IPAs out there but this one is pretty damned good.
