Best Belgian ale in my opinion. I used to love Belgian ales, but for some reason my taste buds had other ideas for the future and blah I no longer liked them. This one was a big wake up call. It was smooth not harsh, creamy even. The taste was mellow but strong and well balanced, nicely "fruited". Alcohol was hardly present. Great beer! Dangerously delicious! I am a believer in Belgian ales again... or at least this one.

Poured a pretty clear amber colour, light reddish hue. Has a bit of foamy head but doesn't last long. Aromas are very subtle, mostly dry fruits, yeast, and a bit of spices. Flavours are a bit on the smokey side, roasted malts, hints of caramel and nuts. Slight yeasty mouthfeel. Mildly bitter. Alcohol is just noticeable enough, well balanced. Average carbonation, and good lacing. Really good stuff, but will someday have to try in appropriate glass.

Amber clear with small foam head. Good alcohol level with sweet bitter taste. Sweet is apple, tickle on tongue. NIce long aftertaste, now drinking this out of special kwak glass. (Velp 201204)

Malty aroma has an overtone of sweet apple and a hint of caramel. It pours a clear coppery brown with a fairly thick, if not persistent, pale tan head that leaves some respectable lacing. Scrumptious flavor has firm notes of malt, caramel and apple and just a hint of cloves. It is slightly sweet and slightly bitter, and these two components nicely balance each other. Smooth, full-bodied texture has a firm fizz and leaves a subtle tingle and a malty, fruity finish.

A tasty Belgian. Wouldn't say it's one of the best out there, but pretty solid. Complex flavors. Typical fruity, hoppy, yeasty, etc. In the future, I would spend the extra buck or two for top of the line. Nice to try something different, and the price is right.

Enjoyed this one at a Balgian-style bar in Qatar in its original glass with wooden holder. 8.4% ABV - ingredients: water, gerstenout, hop and gist. Best before 30/11/2012. Pours a clean amber colour with a beige head that had decent lacing. The aromas are of raisins with hints of nuts and bananas. Nice caramel taste with light fruits and very mild nuts. Hop is present in the finish with the caramel staying long into the aftertaste. Decent refreshing Belgian ale that is not too strong, but with light fruits, nuts and hop.

Pauwel Kwak is a beer that is worth looking as well tasting it. When served in the authenthic 'carriage' glass with a good head on it, it will make you drool. Then tasting it will unleash a sweet, aromatic taste in you're mouth. Be careful for the 8,4 percent alcohol.

Drink it absolutely in his glass with a wooden stand, this gives another dimension to the tasting. This beer is amber red with a fine mousse. in the mouth it gives notes spicy caramelized. in the mouth it has a caratère its own, with flavors of nuts, smoke with a nice bitterness and corbonisation.

A night to remember-drank this in a Kwak glass several times it was so good and smooth it just kept going down, until i went down, yep three of these did me in. After one, the snobby waiter did not annoy me anymore! Happy-Happy!

Had this in Belgium at a streetside restaurant a couple times. . What a glass and what a beer and what a night. Ok, the beer...it's a rich full bodied spicy ale and probably the best ale i ever had. But it packs a serious alcohol punch. If you are holding back any secrets (or anything else), don't drink this. :)

I have to echo the previous reviews on this one, albeit without the benefit of a traditional Kwak glass. This is a light brown ale with lots of character. It has a frothy head and a fruity body. The finish is spicy with a hint of orange zest. This is a delicious beer.
