Sublimely elegant this toffee toned Bock is rich with a blend of Wisconsin and German barley malts. Over four months of resting in oak Bourbon Barrels gives this beer a wonderfully smooth body that will improve and mellow with age. Should you choose to enjoy this classic today you can expect a treasure of vanilla, oak and caramel notes to be bolstered by hops from France, Slovenia and Germany. Wild Brett yeast sings in harmony to the tune of Bock. 20 degrees Plato OG makes this Bourbon Barrel a masterwork to remember. Thanks For Supporting The Arts.

This poured a copper color with a small head. The aroma contains some alcohol, bourbon, and caramel. The flavor is rather sweet with some caramel, toffee, bourbon, and vanilla showing through. The finish is also sweet. Overall this was a good beer.

Courtesy of pfoxyjohn - thanks for the New Glarus selections - you have broadened my horizons! Pours a nice copper-amber with a thin head that quickly disappears leaving some lacing. Aromas of BOURBON, oak, sweet malts, raisins. Taste is first of bourbon, then a slight vanilla oakiness, then malts. A most excellent beer. Thanks pfoxyjohn. Wisconsin rules for beer!

I wasn't really sure when would be a good time to crack open this beer, so after sitting on it for about 6 months, the time had come. The beer is caramel brown in color, cloudy, lighter than I would have thought, with a thin wispy white head. It's hard to miss the bourbon aroma because it's strength is a full on assault to the nose. Slightly sweet, a little funky underneath but the blast of bourbon I enjoyed (much the same way I enjoyed Allagash's Curieux) immensley. The beer really threw me for a loop once I started tasting it. It really reminded me of some sort of whiskey sour mixed drink. It really was nothing like a "bock" style of beer, but something totally different. Still, I did enjoy the 12 oz beer and I'd definitely get it again just to enjoy something as different as this beer is, over and over again.

This dopplebock pours a medium brown color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is bourbon, some oak and sweet caramel malts. A medium bodied Dopple. The malts are sweet, with lots of toffee and caramel flavors; there is also a hint of oak and a very small touch of tartness. The hops are earthy and floral. The bourbon barrel adds some sweetness, some oak and some bourbon flavors to this beer. The malts sweetness is balanced somewhat by some tartness and a very small touch of funk. Very nicely balanced. There is a touch of alcohol presence in this one. A sipping beer for sure, but very nice indeed. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a touch of alcohol bite.

Pours a clear brown with an off white head. Aroma is strong with bourbon. Thin mouthfeel. Flavor is definitely strong on the bourbon. Malt and fruit undertones. An interesting beer no doubt. Thanks to Dansting for bringing a sixer back for me.

Poured a rubish color with average head. Aroma was STRONG bourbon and oak. Flavor was much the same, i had a hard time tasting anything that resembled beer. The bourbon was very overwelming and a mess big time.

Bottle courtesy of Monger: Poured a light brown color bock with a small foamy head with limited retention and some lacing. Aroma is dominated by bourbon notes with light vanilla notes also noticeable. Taste is dominated by bourbon and vanilla notes with a good dose of malt and sweetness to balance the barrel. Body was about average with some medium carbonation. I appreciated the fact that the bourbon was not too hot and covered the whole taste and no explicit notes of alcohol were discerned. A bit one-sided overall but still an enjoyable beer from a fine brewer.

take a poor version of bock, and toit for months into an old bourbon barrel and you get this "beer"? Smell of stale bourbon with the same taste. Gag, down the drain after half a bottle. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

On the heels of a Paulaner Salvator, this brew measures up somewhat well, but also somewhat lacking. Read on. Kinda bland pour, decent coppery color but very still, with no head and (duh) no lacing. I get some mild hops in the nose, atop strong malt and a definite bourbon note. Very tasty, strong bourbon presence makes one imagine a high ABV. I'm not certain it qualifies as a dopplebock, but it is a nicely flavored beer that I'll enjoy drinking again.

Ruby orange color, ok head. Strong aroma of bourbon and oak. Flavor was bourbon and oak...very hard to discern the beer underneath, but what was discernable just didn't seem to go with the bourbon at all. Hints of sharp sourness on the tongue, harsh and tons of alcohol. Quite a mess of a beer.
