Very dark red-brown pour with a tan head that disasters quickly. Great rich malt aroma with a light hint of raisin. Taste is very smooth with zero bitterness with a hint of molasses. Good thick mouthfeel.

Thick mahogany pour with a frothy head. Smells of spice and grain. From the looks of it, this is a fantastic beer. Mouthfeel is velvety and taste is delicious. Malt, spice and grain. Fruitcake. Finish is a little slippery. Other than that. This is a fantasitc beer!

Pours a dark brown/red with some a small amount of bubble and tiny bit of off white head. The aroma is of malts and dark fruits like raisins, plums and figs. There's also a bit of alcohol. The taste is big on sweet malts, prunes, grapes a bit of alcohol and little bit of bitter grassy hops. The mouthfeel is smooth and slick with a medium body and very little carbonation.

Pours dark brown with good clarity and small head. Aroma balances sweet, grainy topnotes against a musky base. The flavor is boldly malty, equally sweet as dry. Medium bodied with gentle carbonation. Best at cellar temperature.

A great beer. A nice mahogany colour with a light tan head that lasts. The aroma is dark caramel malt, nuts, and spices. The flavour is sweet malt, grains, and a decent bitter finish that lingers. Simple, yet well done.

Very good looking beer, slight haze to a deep ruby darkness and a light tan head. Lots of dark fruits on the nose and pallet, maybe a little more than I would like. It is a mild and easy drinking beer with good carbonation and a light body.

This beer has potential, and am sorta liking Spaten. Wouldn't say is my favorite dobblebock, but the price for an imported 7.2% can't really be beat. Sampled this for a single, then just saw today Total Wine and More has a 6-pack for about $7.50. Almost bit, but gonna wait and get a 6 down the road for sure. Mostly malty brown here, minor hops at the end. For 7.2% you would think the alcohol would be somewhat masked, but sorta stands out...in a good way though. Not something I would want to drink all year long, but here and there splitting 6-pack with a friend sounds good to me.

After Ayinger Celebrator, surely my fave Doppel. Just the right ABV to be emminently sessionable. Could hardly look better in the glass, lacking only a little lacing, ruby-tinged deep brown, with a persistent light ivory head. Aroma of yeast and bread, with sweet malts. Sweeeeeet flavor, exactly what I want in a Doppel. An outstanding beer, and at its price, a superior value as well.

Dark brown/maroon color with some ruby highlights when held to the light. Also has some burnt orange and yellow highlights around the bottom and sides. An off white head with average size and retention. It settled to a decent film and left some pretty good lacing. In the aroma, I picked up a dark, earthy, almost burnt grass or gain. Never quite smelled anything like it thus far. Not particularly my favorite smell, but I got used to it. After a while, it started to remind me of a more robust Dunkel. The taste also has a very dark, earthy robust type of flavor. Reminds me of a "Black" Lager as well as a Dunkel. I picked up subtle hints of lard with the earthy grain. A touch of sweetness even. Just a hint of alcohol at the very end. Medium mouthfeel. Left adequate amounts of flavor on the palate. Relatively smooth, but just a wee bit watery. This beer would take some getting used to for me. It's nothing really bad. It's just different. I do love the color of this brew, but I personally don't think I could make a night of it. Doppelbocks must just not be my thing.
