We invite you to discover this newest beer style Black IPA. Political debate rages over the origins of this jet black beer as both coasts feel they deserve credit. Our Black Top is a pleasant road connecting Villages and Communities statewide on a ride of Black IPA discovery. Expect this beer to pour a hop forward jet black glass brimming with aromatic bitterness. Brewmaster Dan skillfully weaves molasses and chocolate malt undertones with a soaring rush of clean citrus and pine hop notes, to deliver a drinkable Black IPA. Savor Black Top, like Wisconsin’s miles of licorice ribbons of ink that meander through armies of corn and bovine mowed fields. Enjoy the journey on a road less traveled.

12oz bottle courtesy of GhostFace. It pours up brown with clear amber edges and a tan head that leaves behind light spotty lacing. The aroma offers up a pleasing rich load of pine hops and dank to spicy hops mixing with dark roasted malts. The taste is very similar where the hops take the flavor lead with a blending of dank to spicy hops to resiny pine hop goodness. Well behind the hops are murmurs of dark roasted malts and faint chocolate malts that grow a tad and then linger into the finish. Darn tasty, this.

Medium sized off white head with fair retention and lace. Clear, Dark amber hued ale. Nose is light with pine and caramel malts. Med/Light bodied, soft carbonation, light resin. Light roasty malt flavors blended well with a citrusy, piney hoppyness though all pretty mellow. Tastes more like a Brown or Amber Ale. Dry finish, light roast. Easy drinkin brew though i would,nt say it was really a BIPA in style. Bottle from MOTORTODDHEAD. Thanks much bro!

Pours a nice dark brown with a 2 finger off white head that takes its sweet ass time. Lots of carbonation and you can see almost through the glass. Aroma is very hoppy and is unbelievably as strong if not stronger than what a IPA or even a DIPA would smell, reminds me of Surly Furious. Taste is no surprise very very hoppy. Has some nice citrus notes to it along with a hit of pine. Finishes off dry and bitter. It does not taste the way it looks, that I can tell you. Very good beer.

the hoppy stuff has been the only chink in the new glarus armor. nothing bad, but definitely not standouts like the fruit beers...or the wheats...or the barleywines...or the lagers :) this ended up being a very nice, well-done session ale. lighter in all aspects than the majority of black ipas i;ve had, but very pleaseant and well balanced at the same time. reminded me of the hop and malt profile of odell mnt standard, and awesome black ipa...just a ton lighter. easy drinking and refreshing, though. thanks Lou, for the liver damage!

Another New Glarus offering from the Wisconsin Beer Mafia Captains: Pfoxyjohn and Phishpond; both brought me some of this Wish List item. Dark brown near-black pour, like a porter, with a medium to short off-white head. Decent lacing. Mild earthy hops aroma with some subtle cocoa, just a smidgen of weak pine too. Taste is understated, which is good with this style, nice earthy hops, light cocoa, again a touch of very weak pine, very short and mild bitter linger. Extremely tasty and easy to drink. If one wanted to try an "American Black Ale" this is where to start. I want more. Thanks to John and Travis for leaving me some of these at the Hootenanny; love it.

Not too malty, and not overly bitter...a balanced Black IPA courtesy of the Wisconsin Beer Mafia. Mottled dark brown body, foamy tan head and thick lacing. Citrus hops with some evergreen play nice with mildly toasted malt with a hint of cocoa. Calm, soothing and good.

I'd be suprised if this GABF gold medal winning brew didn't become a mainstay before too long. Dark brownish black. Mostly black, awesome taste, little hops. Clean and dark chocolately fruit. Very pleasent beer, not too rich at all!

I don't know a lot about the style and I haven't had many but this is a really good beer. Aroma is that of a milder IPA but still punchy. Visually, it's black, go figure. Flavor is a good IPA with a nice mix of citrus and pine. If my eyes were closed I'd just say this was a nice IPA, the black thing works though, makes it more fun to drink. The only knock on it could possibly be the mouthfeel, a little mild/light as is typical with NGs regular line-up, but a very good beer.
