Fall is here and with it our seasonal ale, Red Hoptober. Shining like autumn leaves in a globe glass this beer pours a dark and lovely garnet as it builds a bright, inviting head. The Eldorado hops are bold and present with a distinct, piney flavor while the caramel malt and roasted barley provide a backbone to stand Red Hoptober upright. Centennial and Cascade hops offer hints of citrus, tickling the nose, while the tongue carries a subtle, roasty tone that pairs pleasantly with the warming bite of bitter. Red Hoptober is perfect for shortening days and campfire nights. Just the facts Ma'am... Birthdate - August, 2012 ABV - 6.0% IBU - 60 Hops - Target, Nugget, Cascade, El Dorado, Centennial Malts - Pale, C-80 OG - 16.5 TG - 2.3 Body - Medium Aroma - A bouquet of lush floral, bright citrus and undertones of herbal and spice and airs of caramel kissed coffee. Mouthfeel - Heavier start, hop bitter middle and definite crisp finish. Flavor - A cupful of sweet fig, tropical fruit, toffee, roasted nuts and hoppy bitterness. None of which overwhelm, they simply meet in the middle to attempt balance. Visual - Brilliant glowing flickering red hue.

Comes out of the tap a clear, ruby-tinged copper with a thick, pale tan head that sticks around for a while and leaves very generous lacing. Malty aroma has a hoppy hay overtone and a firm earthy note. Malty, earthy flavor has hoppy and clove notes - it’s a little like drinking good mulch, but I mean that in a positive way. Body is only average, but fizz is strong and lively. Finish is woody but not bitter. Another winner from New Belgium.

This was a nice red ale, had good carbonation. 6% ABV. Dark red in color, decent flavors and aroma's. Seems good overall, would recommend a try of this one.

I picked this up from Kroger in Salem, VA. This was a nice beer - a great blend of Red Ale and Hops. I would have this again I think - nothing stellar, but a solid easy drinking beer with a lot of flavor. Well done New Belgium.

Pours a 1.5 finger beige colour head of nice thickness, with average lacing, and good retention. Colour is a clear opaque dark copper. Big hop aroma up front with grassy, earthy, and herbal hops. Strong scent of pine resin. A little bit of citrus hop with some orange peel, tangerine, and grapefruit hints. Strong malt presence with good hints of toasted caramel, biscuit, grains, and toffee. A rich and solid aroma. The flavor isnt bad but its a bit of a let down from the aroma, Starts with a nutty, caramel malt character that's quickly matched and balanced by some spicy floral and citrus hops. Bisquity malt pops in midtaste. Aftertaste is a mild citrus bitterness; hints of grapefruit. Overall its a nice beer.

A tasty red almost ipa like amber. It tingles the on the tongue but doesn't make your mouth numb with bitterness. Lots of lacing. Caramel is the main malt with a hint of chocolate. The floral hops are perfect in their compliment.

A dark amber color with a beige head. Aroma contains some laundry detergent, caramel, and dark fruit. Luckily none of the Tide makes in the flavor some caramel, cherries, hint of citrus. A good balance of malty and hoppy in the finish. Overall pretty good.

Haven't had a NB brew in a while and this one was really tasty. Pours a dark amber colour, fairly decent sized head with some spritz that linger and bounce on the tongue. Toasty, caramel, some plum notes. Subtle sweetness underlying.

Nice interplay between some citrus and spicy hops and a pretty hearty malt backbone (that was not really expected but enjoyed). Not really sure what I was expecting, but the nutty Irish red qualities was definitely not it, yet I enjoyed this brew thoroughly.

Subdued malt aroma with a touch of the hops but all zesty hops in the flavor. The body is reasonable and the head is nice with good lacing. The finish is clean without too much lingering hop bitter. An interesting twist on the style. Glad I sampled it. Thanks, bluesandbarbq!
