Strong aroma is malty and smoky with a firm undertone of apple and hints of molasses (should I say treacle?) and licorice. Pours a warm opaque sable that lets in a bit of light at the bottom and has a fairly thick wheat head. Mouth-filling flavor has notes of roast malt, coffee, treacle and licorice. Smooth texture has good, firm body and a fair amount of fizz, not as heavy as a stout but certainly pleasing. Let this one growl for you!

I like this beer....mainly for the flavor....but the rest is just about average. Good representation of the English style porter though. On the thinner side....darker brown appearance. Blend of flavors...mostly chocolate malt, some coffee/toffee, with that European yeast that I find in these porters. Also noticing some light fruity notes. A little pricey for the final result, but an interesting brew to sample.

Pours jet black with a dull white head. Tastes of roasted malt, chocolate and a touch of coffee. Quite drinkable and refreshing for a porter. However, I feel lacks a little of the character evident in a few of the finer porters.

Cask@Market Porter, London. Nutbrown colour with mediumsized fluddy off-white head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is roasted malts, some caramel malts, mild ashes, coffee and liquorice. Flavour is roasted malts, mild liquorice, some slight ashes as well as mild fruityness in the finish.

O.G. poured a dark black body, miniscule carbonation led to a tiny head. I didnt rate this beer very high because the aroma and flavor were rather strange. Almost like burnt black licorice, thats the closest thing to compare it with. It wasnt bad or offensive, just different. It was a little creamy and smooth, easy to drink. It was a decent brew, one i would probably try again to see if i could figure it out better.

has some good lacing qualities...metal/coal smell...the smell and mouthfeel kill this beer...not worth sending over from england..never again...bottle does this beer no justice!

Gets points for that handsome coffee color with the ruby-red glow when held up to the light. Points also for the rich roasty aroma. Gets a point or two off for the thin mouthfeel, but when it warms a little, the subtle character of a good English porter really comes out. I'd have it again.

Not bad, although not overly impressive. If this is what the style used to be, I don’t begrudge progress. This pours a dark mohagany (sp) with virtually no head and definatly no lace. Aroma is sweet and includes prunes/apricots. Flavor follows the scent closely, but the dark fruits take center stage. I’ve gotta say it’s not overly complex in this area. Palate has a nice mineral feel to it which bumps up my score here. If it had more carbonation or fullness to it the score would have been higher. Overall, I’m not that impressed, although it’s nice to see a real Brit offering of the old style.

Bottle. Dark ruby brown with a slim tan head. Aroma is sweet and fruity with roast malts, coffee and a touch of chocolate. Nice taste of the same elements with some tar thrown in and a dry bitterness. Medium bodied, smooth and drinkable.

Dark brown color and a full tan head on the pour. Roasted malt aroma with not much else in the way of variety. Flavor is big on the dark malts upfront but as it moves to the finish the bitterness comes out and mixes well creating a burnt toast effect. Very nice. The analogy "if it walks like a duck..." applies here but doesn't end with "then it must be a duck". This one looks like a porter, smells like a porter but tastes like a stout.
