You won't find an English-style brown ale quite like Muskoka Dark. Its bold colour, yet remarkably easy-going taste gives it a personality as unique as the region it's from. Subtle undertones characteristic of its Dark Munich malt ease into hints of chocolate and caramel, making this gold-medal winning ale as inviting as it is distinct. Thirsty yet?

Dark, almost black, clear with brownish foam head, sort of lacing to glass. Aroma is malty and chocolate. Taste is chocolate, toffee and malty bitterness. Aftertaste is good bitter. (Montreal 201210)

Had a dark brown appearance, with big frothy light brown head, like brown sugar. Good lacing. In the taste, some roasted malts, coffee flavours. Rich and full bodied aromas are same as flavour. some barley, spices are apparent. Not too bad.

The beer poured a translucent dark red with brown hints. The aroma was roasted malt, caramel, and nuts. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was nutty malt, molasses, and coffee. A good beer.

Can: Poured a clear deep brown color ale with a medium size foamy head with average retention and not lacing. Aroma of caramel malt with notes of maple syrup. Taste is dryer then expected with clear notes of caramel malt and a maple finish. Body is a bit thin with good carbonation. Maple notes were surprising but overall a bit of a run of the mill beer.

This is a very refreshing brown ale. A nice brown pour with a decent sized head followed by an aroma of roasted malt, nuts, and a some hops. It has a slight sweet hint in the taste and is very drinkable as a result.

I liked this one from the first pour: Deep chestnut brown, decent 2 finger frothy sand colored cap..great lacing. Big chewy malts in the front...Chocolate-mocha tones...light grassy hopping allow the malts to shine out...smooth malty clean finish. Not overly complex but severely drinkable and satisfying like all the brews from this brewer. LOMCB is establishing itself as one of the best brewers of solid straight forward malty beers.

Not impressed with the other Muskoka product I had I was pleasently surprised when first tasting the dark ale. The name ('dark ale') doesnt specify exactly what to expect. I found the beer to have a very nut brown character. Hardly any texture. Sythentic flavouring. Overall, this served me as a great cross over beer, but once revisiting, I had to drain pour...

Pours deep red brown with a thin off white head. Chocolate malt, mossy aroma. Somewhat roasty. Body of the beer is a lttle thin. Sweet malts, hops are well to the back. Traces of sour, saltwater taffy, slight wood smoke. Dry sour finish.

Poured a deep amber colour with a beautiful creamy beige head that settled quickly. Left a small amount of lacing. Smelt malty with hints of molasse and tuna (yes... tuna - I know that does not sound pleasant, but it did not ruin the nose). The flavour was matly caramel / coffee with a smooth bitter start and a dry finish. Beats the hell out of Newcastle's english brown ale.
