Jan. 2010 - Pour was a beautiful golden yellow, with generous head and lacing. This one smells hoppy and, MAN, was this bitter. Earthy like hops and a lot of bitterness. Might have been in my top 3 or 5 most hoppy/bitter beers ever...to the point of detracted enjoyment for me. Still good and worth seeking out for the experience...extreme.

Hazy honey brown body with a very large crown right after the pour that slowly reduced down to a thick film. Massive heavy hop aroma with wet leather and tiny hints of soap. Taste is bitter, all bitter, so very bitter, bitter, some more bitter, and finishes with a massive bitter kick………..The hops have a peach leather taste and they completely smash the malts to the point I’m not sure there was any. Yummy simple tasting brew with a bitterness that’s has never been rivaled.

Sampled on 10/8/2010. This IPA pours a medium gold color from a 330ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head, with nice retention and good lacing. The aroma is fruity and sweet, floral and piney. A medium bodied India Pale Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are citrusy, grapefruity and piney. The aroma and taste are quite different with this hop. A fairly bitter IPA. Nice carbonation. Big hop flavors. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is very bitter.

From Brewery Creek. Poured a massive rocky white head over a a clear amber body. Supurb lacing was the result of all this. Nose was well hopped, just like the taste. All this and sediment, too. Good mouth and finish. Pricy, isn't it!

The first of 3 Mikkeller single hop brews I tried on tap at the Malt House. Bright amber colour, big head. Lots of carbonation. Wicked bitter for sure, powerful hops coming through in all aspects. Slightly sappy too, something very piney about it. Firm and fruity despite that strong hop presense. Nice beer, but not my favorite of the three.

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.9%. Orange colour, huge and lasting off-white head. Pleasant aroma of Tomahawk hops, fruity / citrussy notes. The flavour is distinctly hoppy throughout, moderate fruity and piney notes, then an intense bitterness in the finish and long aftertaste.

Bottle, home. This a well made beer with a wonderful aroma, but the Tomahawk varietal just doesn’t work on its own. The beer is quite bitter, almost outrageously so, and the yeast strain doesn’t seem to want to play nicely with the hop flavors. The hops have an interesting bitter wood/nut flavor that quickly transitions to a massive pine bitterness. Pine tar has nothing on this bitter resin. I appreciate the effort and the thought behind this lineup, but I prefer some hop varietals in blends to alone and Tomahawk is definitely one that belongs in a blend. The aftertaste left my mouth with an intense, almost uncomfortable bitterness for an absurdly long time. This beer would be a nightmare for anyone who doesn’t actively love bitterly unbalanced hoppy beers.

From Knightly. Amber-orange color, huge clumpy head, maybe too vigorous on this pour. Resin, herbal character, grapefruit and lemon in a pleasant aroma. Sharp bitterness and dry. The flavor is a lot of what the aroma shows; herbs, lemon, resinous hops, grassy notes. No real citrusy grapefruit here. Plenty bitter but maybe a little light on some of the rest of what’s going on. Some malt sneaks in there towards the end of the bottle but the hops dominate. Very drinkable. Pretty solid beer.
