"MacTarnahan's had a frothy year in 2007 following the reintroduction of MacTarnahan's Amber Ale last March," said Tom Bleigh, Head Brewer, MacTarnahan's Brewing Company and Pyramid Breweries in Portland. "We're keeping the momentum going with Mac's Sling Shot Extra Pale Ale, golden in color, composed of the choicest malts and Nugget and Cascade hops. Sling Shot is a populist beer with enough complexity to keep things interesting. It hits the spot!" Sling Shot Extra Pale Ale is available in six packs and 22 ounce bottles as well as draft. It has an alcohol by volume of 6.2% and 30 IBU's (International Bitterness Units). Suitable for warmer weather, it will complement MacTarnahan's pioneering, award-winning family of beers including MacTarnahan's Amber Ale, Blackwatch Cream Porter and Oregon Honey Beer. MacTarnahan's Amber Ale won a gold medal in 1992 and a silver medal in 2006 at the Great American Beer Fest -- the granddaddy of all U.S. beer competitions.

I don't usually drink pale ales or lagers these days, but the nice, comicbook-inspired label caught my eye. I'm hoping the label artist is involved in independent comics? An average crafty pale ale. Better than all commercial brews, bottom of the line when it comes to craft brews. Craft brews, the real test is if you can drink them at room temperature. I'm scared to try this one if it's not cold. But the price, the cute label, worth a 6-pack. Not a great session beer, not a memorable craft beer. It's a limited edition. It's OK. No recommendation, just buy if you want to collect the label, which is really nice - one of the best I've seen on any craft brew, aside from Sierra Nevada's Ruthless Rye IPA!

Not a bad - "If that's the best they've got" kind of brew. Pour and aroma are clean and light. Agreed - good session beer. A couple of these would wind out a blah day or start one into this style. Flavor is unremarkable, SNPA light sums it up quite well. I do like the drinkability, but in the end it should be closer to a 3 overall - and BeerPals rating is spot on so far. Some may like this more than others. For the money there are many other brews to choose from - and better brews at that. Since I am a hop-head (and, damn it if I did not look closer at the 6-pack of Glissade that three of these were slipped into before buying it - it was the last sixer of Glissade on the shelf) I can feel ok about having a few in the fridge. This will probably end up getting cooked with or used as a marinade. Nice, light flavors of hops, malt, and citrus - this is a sweet one, yet clean, with a nice crisp finish.

This one gave up a clear and light copper coloured body beneath a head that nearly wasn't. The aroma was lightly hopped and also a little bit floral, quite gentle and pleasing to the nose but nothing memorable. The taste was nice and refreshing, with a good balance of hop and malt, and with a slight bitterness. Good mouth complemented the good finish. Another nice beer from Mac's, and one that I could easily drink a fair few of at a sitting.

Pours a clear light amber with a nice white head and tight lacing. Good carbonation. Aromas of slight hops, a fair amount of malts, and slight grapefruit. Taste is smooth with a nice balance of malts and hops with a very slight bitter in the end. Agree with Clash - a good session beer.

A golden appearance with a small white head. The aroma is rather faint with some lemons and soap. The flavor is slightly bitter with some lemons and grapefruit present. This is like SNPA light or something. Nothing wrong with it but nothing to seek out either. Overall a decent session beer.

Mac's usually has very good beer, and they don't disappoint with this brew. Very robust flavor and appearance. Dark and robust with hints of malt. Very good smooth flavor and mouthfeel. Good beer
