For centuries Venetians lightened the dark of winter with an elaborate upending of social order. In donning a disguise for Carnevale, for one night a puaper could become a prince, a learned man a fool, a proper lady a passionate lover... and no one would be wiser. This beer is our tribute to that grand celebration of the unexpected. A Saison-style blonde ale with American hops and... well, that's all you really need to know. Now put on your mask, raise your glass, and toast to the magic of winter's night mystery. Lo Carnevale!

Very murky yellow pour with a decent white head. Not one of my favorite styles but it was somewhat tasty. Belgian yeast from start to finish. Spicy, tart, lemon and some light fruit. Grassy hop bitterness. Big bottle was too much. wont revisit.

An expensive saison available in Toronto, Canada and fortunately it ranks high on my list of saisons, although still not worth what I paid. A medium gold pour, hazy, with orange hues. The aroma is dominated by a yeasty funkiness that makes you think twice about tasting it, but the flavour is very earthy with citrusy hints coming through. An excellent beer.

Strong, inviting aroma is malty, fruity and yeasty with a grassy hint. It pours a clear amber with a thick, fluffy, rather persistent white head. Mouth filling flavor is crisp and malty and has fruity and floral undertones as well as an herbal hint. Texture is fizzy and sassy, and can unexpectedly bite the tongue, so watch out! Another winner from Lost Abbey.

Thanks to eaglefan538 for sharing. Pour is light milky orange, smallish head and little lacing. Really spicy aroma. Flavor was sweet, bordering on sticky with a slightly flat mouthfeel. Lots of gspice. Like sparkling pear juice with a tart finish.

pours golden with a tight white head. aroma is ok...a little barnyard, belgoan yeast, light fruits and light hops. the flavor and feel, which started out average or just above, really grew on me as i drank and the bitter hops blended quite nicely with the relatively tame but flavorful belgian clove, tart fruit and funky aspects of the beer. not one i'll likely go back to soon, but not bad either.

1 pint 9.4 fl. oz.. corked bottle, 2009 version, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. Pours first crystal pale yellow with fine bubbles, moderate white head, some sediment in the bottle. Aroma of damp basement, some fruit (cider apples) and hints of horse stable in the background, but has not the fine aroma balance of a good Belgian ale. The flavour has distinct notes of brettanomyces, some spiciness, and fairly bitter American hops in the finish - but again without the flavour harmony of a real Belgian. Not a bad beer, but I expected something far better than this.

Bottle from Julio’s. This pours a golden-orange color with a fluffy white head that ends as a thin layer. The aroma is flowers, yeast, mild spice, fruity notes; apples, pears, very nice. Sweet malty and grassy flavors up front, followed by fruits, apples, pears, banana, which meld nicely with some light barnyard notes, and spicy hops finishes this out. A little on the sweet side as it warms. Very easy drinking and refreshing. Good one for the summer.

Bottle courtesy of Kegbear: Poured a bright golden yellow color ale with a pure white large foamy head with great retention and perfect lacing. Aroma of European dry hops with light notes of Brett. Aroma of dominated by European hops (Saaz?) with some light bretty notes and some distinctive Belgian malt. Taste is also dominated by some dry hoppy notes with a nice Belgian malt backbone. I didn't notice as much ester as I would have expected but I still quite enjoyed this one. Full body with great carbonation and no alcohol note whatsoever.
