La Trappe Bockbier is a unique seasonal product, available from autumn onwards. the only Trappist bock and what is more, one that continues to ferment in the bottle. A beautiful deep red colour with a light, bitter aftertaste.

Ruddy brown in color with a big frothy textured, beige head rising above. There's good hang time on the head. It settles into a thick clingy film and profound ringlet. Pome Fruity profile with an underlining citric presence. Light bodied and well balanced.

On tap in a flight at The Hourglass Brewery in Longwood, FL. Solid bock the way the style should be. Semi-creamy texture with a medium to darker brown appearance. Mostly caramel malt and bready flavors...like a heavier Oktoberfest. Not a huge fan of this style, as many of the American bocks simply do not cut it...but this one is worth the try for sure.

Bottle, kindly shared by my beerpal Ivar. ABV is 7%. Cloudy brown colour, big beige head with an orangey hue. Malty and slightly stale aroma (stale dark fruits). Malty rich flavour, spicy and oaky notes, moderate hops in the finish.

I first had a La Trappe (the only Trappist Ale brewed outside of Belgium) a long time ago when it was actually called La Trappe. I think it was the Dubbel, but I can't remember. Now that it is back in the USA marketed under the name of the abbey where it's brewed, I intend to try them all! The Koningshoeven Bock Bier has a nice rock sturdy head leaving good lace above the reddish brown semi-clear body. On the buds, we have the typical malt notes of a bock, with burnt toasty flavor and a nice spicy ending. I must admit, I did detect a mellow cocoa mustiness quality, with a brown sugar note or two whilest imbibing. Here's to the Trappist Monks of the Abbey De Koningshoeven! Well done!

Tasted at the April Northern California Beer Tasting. This bock pours a deep brown color from a 33cl bottle. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel and toffee and fairly sweet. A medium bodied bock. The malts are caramel, toffee, bready and sweet. The hops are floral and earthy. Nice balance. This beer kind of surprised me, it was much better than I thought it was going to be. It’s not very complex, but its very drinkable. The malts are sweet without being cloying and it finishes with a slightly dry and bitter finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is crisp and clean. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Clear reddish brown with a huge creamy foam. Toasted malts, light chocolate and figs in the aroma. Malty flavour of toasted malts almonds and nuis. Surprisingly thin body. Sweet malty finish with touches of licorice and pepper.

Dark brown colour, small beige head, which lasts for a long time. Aroma is caramel, licorace, fruits, malts and some alcohol. Flavour is caramel, yeast, malts and some slight alcohol. Some grassy hints also in the finish.

Thick, creamy, off-white head and very dark, red-brown liquid that hardly let any light through. Aroma is strong of malt with hints of citrus at first, including apple and some malt. Medium body with slight carbonation up front that becomes smooth. Starts sweet and finishes dry. Some alcohol comes through at the end. I had no idea there was a bockbier by La Trappe until I found this in Amsterdam, so I had to buy it, and I'm glad I did.
