This Black Rye IPA, the bigger brother to our Rustbucket, balances rye and roasted malts with fresh hops aromas and flavours. At 6,5 % ABV Blackie is a little bigger in strengh than his lighter sibling but we think he is every bit as drinkable.

280 ml, on tap at the ICBF, Dublin 09/14. Poured in a session glass a clear and dark burgundy-brown coloured Rye Ale with half a finger brown foamy head that had a long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Low carbonation. Good lacing. The aroma is roasted malts, fruity, grapefruits, aromatic hops and coffeish notes. The flavour is solid resinous hops, roasted and burnt malts, a smokey touch, coffeish and black chocolate notes. The mouthfeel is crispy, very smooth and bitter. The texture is oily. This medium to full bodied Rye Ale has a lingering hoppy bitter finish. The mix between the rye and the hops leads to an interesting combination.
