This is not the best balanced porter. Extra sweet and extra bitter. Seemed more like a stout. Single sample grew on me somewhat and became drinkable, just below average for the style. Trader Joe's beer seems to be hit or miss, but it's cheap.

From Trader Joe in Vegas. Pours a clear, deep copper colour with a beige head, decent retention and a little lace. Fruity dark malt nose with some light hops. A lot of the same in the taste but with the hops being more powerful in the finish, and roasted malts lingering. I feel some mild infection in this one, so hope this is not in others. Decent average porter.

I get reddish notes in the brownish colored ale. There's a fairly large frothy textured light tan colored head. There's good hang time on the head. A thick ringlet and persistent cap hang in there. There's a smoky nose. A light bodied ale with a lot of molasses in the tasting.

This beer is super dark brown, almnost black but unfortunately produces a thin weak head. The smell is malty sweetness, a touch of licorice with some hints of toastiness. The taste is dominated by toasted acidic malts, and finishes with a nice dryness. The mouthfeel is slightly creamy, overall its not bad, but i wouldnt buy it again.

No reason to be redundant to the other reviews. I'm certainly far from experienced here, but I found all other reviews to be pretty accurate. I did not find any licorice notes, though. For $1 per bottle, it's a bargain, and for me, a key facet is zero icky aftertaste! I know some of you like that skunky aftermouth, but not for this chick. The KBC Porter left me smiling:)

Strong aroma is smoky and slightly sweet, with licorice, molasses and horehound notes. It pours a dark, semi-transparent mahogany with a very thick, fine-bubbled, cream-tan head. Flavor has smoky, malty, molasses and caramel notes, not quite mouth-filling but still pleasing. Smooth texture has average body and minimal fizz.

for $5.99 a sixer (or a buck for a single) this is a steal. not anything special per se, but a more than serviceable porter. pours black with thin khaki head. a tad thin. the aroma and taste are a bit of a hybrid between an american and london porter...nutty, toffee, roasted malts. quite pleasant , and a pleasant surprise at this price point.

Purchased at Trader Joes here in Madison: Pours a medium thick black colour with a very small tan head. Aroma is nutty, with roasted malts on the nose. Taste is actually prett decent, nutty character all the way through with noticeable caramel undertones.
