Deep reddish color with a dense, billowy white head. Light aroma of grain, soft, smooth mouthfeel, light-to-medium bodied. Mild caramel malt flavor with a slight hop bitterness, and faintly nutty. MUSIC" 'On Wisconsin' by the UW Marching Band

This is one of the several beers I sampled when visiting the J.T. Whitneys in Middleton, WI on my "Boozin Across Wisconsin Tour 2008". It came as part of an 8 piece sampler set that I purchased.

The Badger Red was brought out with a very big head which quickly dissolves in the glass within a minute. The beer has a dark ruby red color to it. The aroma is that mainly of malts with hints of hops in there.

The beer drinks super smooth with very little carbonation in it at all. Beyond just the maltiness of the taste I pick up on some notes of honey which surprised me because the description of the beer at the brewpub said that there was caramel notes in there. I couldn't pick them up. There was a weak hoppiness to it as well. I agree with Phishpond417 in that the beer did have a watery finish to it and went out like a lamb and not a lion...um I mean badger.

Overall it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I'd categorize it as pretty standard fare for a red ale. There definitely are better reds out there than the Badger.

A fairly decent ale, pours a reddish brown colour with a medium sized white head. very well balanced between hops and malts, but found it to be a little weak, lighter tasting than i would have anticipated. It had a little watery finish.
