A carbonated brown ale, with an average head. A subtle hoppy aftertaste, mixed with a mild sweet brown. This beer with was 8 somethin for a sixer and I'm drinkin it while I wait for the Direct Tv guy to set up my NFL Gameday package. Also, the Sox play the Yanks later today and it will be another 20-11 pounding, fack.

This poured a dark brown color with a moderate head. The aroma contains some nutmeg, caramel, chocolate, and toffee. The flavor is rather dry with some dark chocolate, toffee, and caramel coming through. The palate is a bit thin. Overall about on par with most brown ale so an ok effort.

This is a good beer. I'm partial to this style and wasn't let down here. You'll notice a toasty aroma and flavor. It pours a bit of a head but it dissipates quickly.

Pours a dark brown color with a nice initial tan head. Some sticks around for spotty lacing. Sweet and malty with light balancing hop bitterness and some caramel mixed in. A bit thin on the back end but overall a pretty solid, albeit unspectacular Brown Ale.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Appearance: It had a tan head of average size that fades quickly leaving only a little lacing. The body has a dark brown color with some nice ruby red highlights. Smell: The aroma has a big sweet, malty, bready character. Taste/Mouth feel: The base flavor is malty and bready with some hints of darker roasted malt and modest, slightly citrusy hops. The hops add a good balance to the mostly malty character and finish with the beer with a pleasant soft bitterness. Its texture is smooth, slightly slick and medium bodied with light to average carbonation. Notes: Overall nice beer and a standout from the mixed 12-pack.

Sampled from bottle: Pours a semi-translucent dark brown colour. Noticeably nutty with almond, caramel, burnt toast and cinnamon notes. Some noticeable spice in the finish. Also, rich flavours all around which are pleasent. One of the more tolerable brews from H&L.

Hook and Ladder Backdraft Brown Ale 2.7 cheapdark Darker than expected. Looks like root beer. Aroma of roasty caramel and daffodils. Somewhat mild but does have enough burned bitterpersonality. Decent fizzy carbonation. Taste is rather roasty as with a medium wet campfire coal, but not towards a stout kinda way. Good alternate to a pale lager, not enough over the top to turn me off. You do know however that you are drinken a dark beer. More like an american dark lager than a brown ale. Leathery on the palate with a decent ropey finish.

Nice nutty-malty mix with a very fizzy mouthfeel (lots of carbonation, but almost no head or lacing). Flavor is a definitely that of darker roasted malts, but very nice.

Poured a rich brown color with a nice head. The aroma was nice and malty with a hint of earthiness to it. This was a good tasting brown with a nice malt balance with the hops. This was a beer I just happened to find in a grocery store in Va., glad I picked upp a sixer of it.

I sampled this at the Copper Turret in Morrisville. Poured a deep brown almost black with decent head. There was a nice balance and richness that reminded me a bit of a stout. The nutty flavors came through with a malty flavors mixed in . The mouth feel was satisfyingly smooth with good body that complements salty snacks.
